I'd only retaliate (i.e. go search for them and get revenge) if you can guarentee for the next few months you'll have be surrounded by your mates incase they try anything back 
Although that said, if you happened to be walking through the same area again and they decide to start on you or dale again - then this time if you fought and just so happened to have a load of mates hidden round the corner to come help when it all kicks off, they can't really hold a grudge. (most of them will just leg it when they know the odds are even / they're out numbered).
i.e. if 1 or 2 of you walk along, and 11 of them see you, they'll start. If 10 of you walk along and 11 of them see you, they'll keep quiet
So just make sure most of your group is not visible until the pricks kick off and 'create' a situation. May make them think twice if another 10 people suddenly turn up to help you guys out.

Another fine moment in the uk
Reminds me of an incident here involving half my family a while ago.
My grandparents ran a well respected pub and one night there was an incident out back and 2 guys were kicking the living daylights out of 1 guy. My grandad and uncle went out back and tried to break it up, it resulted in one of them injuring my grandad causing him to have a stroke and parts of his arm have never been the same since(lost feeling). As for the guy getting beat up he was in hospital and barely missed having brain damage, one of the guys got prison time as a result of my grandad and uncle testifying at court.
Roll on about a year later when the main lad gets out of prison. He automatically wanted to seek revenge on my uncle and grandad for being witnesses. For a few months the main guy keeps seeing my uncle around town and keeps making himself know to my uncle, after a few months my uncle gets sick and tired of it and says 'right, lets go outside you and me and sort this out' even though my uncle isnt one bit violent etc. The guy refused as these people do and didnt like the idea of a fair 1 on 1 fight. Another few months pass and its all quiet.
My grandma as she does every night goes out back one night to let the dogs out and theres a group of people across the road including this main guy whos the 'leader'. They start trying to shout the dogs over and my grandma tells them to stop it, next thing my grandma gets punched in the side of the face from behind the person then runs over to the rest of the group, bear in mind my grandmas 60yrs old and this group are late 20's and there were 15-20 of them!
One of the locals sees this and runs into the pub and tells my grandad, next thing my grandad runs out followed by my uncle, my dad, my cousin and the d.j to see whats going on.
This group of 15-20 proceed across the road and kick the living daylights out of my family just for comming out to protect my 60yr old grandma. They had my grandad on the floor stamping on his head and also kicking my dad in the head(the older 2 of my family), my uncle, cousin and d.j are younger and could react quicker/stronger so didnt spend alot of time on the floor but got a proper beating also, basically 4-5 people on each of them so they never stood a chance. After kicking 7 shades out of them the walked off up the road.
My grandad and dad ended up in hospital with my grandad having a 2nd stroke again from the same guy!
The police came and said they couldnt do anything about it even though the group were pointed out walking up the road!!
And all that happened because my grandad and uncle did the right thing in court.
And as per this thread, i was fuming this happened to my family and wanted revenge and to make them feel pain like my family did.
I was 18/19yr old at the time(20 now) and theses guys were my uncles age at 28-30yr old. I went so far as spending every day trying to find out who they all were. I managed to find out the main guy lived 2 streets away from me so me being hungry for revenge and not thinking things through properly i got myself a balaclava and picked up my baseball bat. My intentions were to wait for him to come home at night and break his legs.
While waiting i had a proper think and talked to a mate, i realised revenge isnt a good option at all, after all look what they did to my family, and id be lowering myself to there scumbag level. who was to say they wouldnt do it again? But next time it could turn out in a death etc you just do not know these days.
So my advise is think it through properly before acting on instincts lads, seriously. Theres always consequences for nearly anything you do like this.
Ill give my fingers a rest from typing now!

lady at works husband/brothers/mates have there own way of dealing with these people. they live on a shittyish estate, with no drugs what so ever, because whenever a dealer moves in, they go and colllect him in a transit van, and he stops dealing after that

Not read all of this but been there so many times, on my 17th birthday I got jumped by 4 lads of there cakes who drove passed me in a stolen cavalier. I had one holding an arm each and one twating me repeteadly in the face, while the other one ran after my mate I had to get my eye glued up and had a swollen as fuck face that looked like a manequin. I hate dickheads like that, i've been involved in town so many times when it's gone off but I hate it

same with paul_j , i live near slough and people dont hesitate to just pull knifes out on you, i had mates stabbed smashed round the head with broken ashtrays scarring them for life, one of them had a bottle smashed in his eye 3 times permanantly blinding him in on eye. justice system is shite,

Update - I'm not being funny, not sounding like an E-thug, genuinely I HATE violence. But these people have gone too far and are now in major trouble.
The parents of the people who jumped me went around to my aunties house last night, threatening my cousin and her baby, threatening to burn the house down. Stood outside rocking their car, throwing things, shouting things. Thats with a small baby in the house and 2 kids.
2 of the main lads from last night are being sent to Bristol by their parents for their own safety.
Family members have just found out about the parents of the dickheads going round to my Aunts last night and it doesn't look good. This really looks like its going to go out of control.
These people have taken it too far and are now in a lot of trouble.
