Go straight into NVQ's, or formal qualifications for a job (IE, in IT, you'd do specialist IT courses, a GCSE IT simply won't cut it ).

Think about what you want to do, and go directly to those courses, the GCSE's really will be a waste of time.

Then your getting proper training thats designed for a job/career. Chances are, u'll catch on quick.

but the course i want to go onto at uni asks for 5 gcse's at least, i have emailed them and asked what qualifications a mature student would need as i have read that mature students dont need the same qualifications, just have to wait and see what they reply

im not trying to sound rude but why dont you choose a course that will suit your qaulifications/needs more, i know everyone says work towards somthing higher, but i wouldnt suggest trying for a uni course, id start off with NVQ's if i was you.
phone the local college and ask to speak to a careers advisor, rather than asking loads of different peope on here who have all had different experiances.
the only way to resolve this is to phone the college careers advisors ?

I think the problem evgeryone is mising here (because by law everyone takes their gcse's) is that gcse's are almost always the minimum qual to do ANYHTING... we all ignore/take it for granted because 99.9999% of people sit their GCSEs!

As long as you have GCSE's then you can do any course and get into any job really.

College here offers them to whoever wants to study them..
