450bhp is easier from the R32 engine than it is from the 1.8t, you'd get that power with a supercharger kit, with the 1.8t you'd need rods, pistons, bigger turbo, manifold etc, you'd end up spending more.

The R32 is good for a lot more power than the 1.8t.

Tom i just dont fancy an S3 really as muck as a golf R32 (be it lookalike or genuine), just thenk the kit looks awesome but want a nice power package to go with it

Robin Im "just" looking for about 350BHP which Im pretty sure would be cheaper to get from the 1.8T than the V6

Some coupra Rs are 225 bhp, my mate has one

I doubt 350bhp would be cheaper from the 1.8t TBH, you're still looking at a few grand on bits, the same as you'd spend on the R32 for more power.

Looks like its going to be a pian in the ass with the CAN bus system if i want to put a GTi engine on standalone management in an R32.

For anyone who looks into this in the future the best price for getting an R32 to 360BHP is a single, non intercooled turbo conversion pushing 11psi avaliable from the states ror $10,000 (not a bad price IMO)

If you want to stick with a 4 cylinder engine its best to get a 2l Turbo engine and gearbox from an S3 then you can keep the 4wd because the 1.8T engine wont fit the 4wd box, even then you may have issues with the engine change and the CAN bus setup.

Im swinging towards getting a genuine R32 and waiting till spring then ordering the turbo kit. Will be getting some VW mags to see if there are any other options but thats how it stands at the moment

Unfortunately not with modern vw's mate.. even if you got the engine all mounted in the rest of the cars systems that are on the can bus will throw a hissy fit

Ive had a look Colin but nothing really jumps out at you. Theres a tidy R32 on autotrader with 57k on it for £10,000 then with the conversion from america it would come to 15-16 thousand anyway but then at least Id have something a little bit different. A few years ago I fancied an evo/impreza but I feel as if Ive out grown them already cos they just dont appeal to me anymore. It sounds like a lot of money to be spending on a golf I have to admit
