Because it's done badly. A lot of comedy is scripted but if you've heard the joke before, it's not funny the second time nevermind the tenth.

Top Gear was better with Steve Berry and Tony Mason.

That said, I thought this week's episode wasn't too bad, at least it wasn't completely dominated with brand new, totally unreachable cars.

Have to agree with that, Hammond is the worst, His acting skills are not even skills.
All the events they do where they all buy one car and mod it and then do test, far too scripted, even them laughing looks like bad acting.

Saying this not much else on so when is the rerun as I always miss the Sunday night show ?

end of the day who cares what top speed a ferarri 360 will do potentially 90% of us if this is a ccurate percentage will never own one and clarkson trying to describe one is still no use to someone like me, if you have the money for a supercar you will go test drive one for yourself.

so why not make the show scripted and commical cant beat it

go watch fifth gear

I don't want to watch a boring show... Top gear about 5 series ago was perfect. It wasn't dull then, it was a good balance of comedy and cars. These days it's just a joke of a show - as Ian says, the gags are just the same old ones being repeated. This is because they are not comedians.

Am I the only one who enjoys the fact top gear shows the latest super cars?

I personally love the fact I'm seeing veyrons, ferrari 430s etc all being hammered hard on tv, as that's probably the closest I'll ever get to them.

An example of a good show from the past, Ferrari 360 vs Porsche Gt3 RS!

I do like it sometimes, but I prefer it when they do something like the Alfa thing this time, I can afford an Alfa 75, it looked like a lot of fun on that trackday until the producers decided it needed to be carefully placed on it's side in the gravel, I can't, however, afford a Porsche, Ferrari or the like, so I find it more interesting when there's something which is good and affordable.

I've not really been that impressed by any of the supercars of recent years anyway, I watched the Bugatti/May top speed show earlier, it wasn't particularly exciting, just someone driving a car in a straight line at speed, very much a non event really.

I MUCH prefered 'old' top gear, there was always something new (Clarkson), something second hand which was worth a look (Willson), something to do with motorsport (Needel and Mason), something totally mental with Steve Berry. Everyone had their place, it wasn't 3 people trying to do the same job.

The old tests were better, were simple and more logical in terms of what a car can do.
Like when the 350z came out they tested it againsts the 300zx around a track and 1/4 mile.
Now if the 350z was new out the test would be drive to Japan and back or something pointless.

Now like most things its too commercial.
I find it funny but at the same time I think this is a bit silly when its scripted.

I think they are being wound in by this whole 'lads' thing that seems to be so popular for some reason now. Next up they'll be reviewing what lager is best, which crisps to buy when you are 'at the pub watching the footy', which magazine is best - Zoo or Nuts and all that other shit somone in some marketing office would like people to think men are interested in.

I love seeing supercars, I don't really want to watch an hour about Mondeos I could just go to a ford garage to look at.

That whole feature would of been brilliant with the track day... IF they had gone to a normal track day / novice track session...

The fact they were out there with porsche Gt3 rs's etc just took the piss.

To be honest, if it was aimed at 'lads' it wouldn't be so bad. But it's aimed at 'family' / old women these days. I.e. when I sat in my diner of my old work all the old ladies would be going 'Ooohh who saw top gear last night... It was so funny... I just get bored when they review the cars though, I wish they had less of that'

A ) the program was never meant for them B ) it's a car program deal with it.

They've sold out to the ratings.

the scripted bit i totally agree with, but i also agree with robin in the alfa romeo thing i think its more US!!!!!

yes paul,j i love the supercars being ragged its good to watch but cos i have not driven a veyron/gt40/corvette etc i lose interest because words that jeremy clarkson says have no affect on me in my living room what that car is like to experience.

but the alfa test they were just normal cars and if you ask me they all enjoy driving these more than the supercars.................

I'd agree with that too, they seemed to have a much better time in the three Alfas than they did when they went looking for the best driving road ever in the Aston, Porshce and Lamborghini.

The track day was a bad idea, just looks amateurish that they turned up and messed about during a session with proper cars. Not even close racing. They just appeared to be mobile hazards.

It's not even about buying an old Alfa and appreciating it. They just wreck stuff then try and make a joke out of taking it to a show. Perhaps it was vaguely funny when they got Porsche Club judges to inspect Porsches although I did find it a bit cringe-worthy. But the same gag again - when the cars are in worse condition - just shonky.

Anyone could buy a car each and wreck it in a few days. I find it less funny if it's just wasting money on breaking things for no reason.

Just watched it, thought it was good.

The typecast characters they've created have become boring but i still find it entertaining either way. That being said i'm not a car buff, if i was i'd use site's like this and the several hundred others to feed my lust for proper automotive fodder.

I agree 100% with Ian. It's almost taking the piss out of the actual petrol head culture.

Like fucking about on a track day is more likely to make people not want to go to a track day, or think they will be overtaken by everything unless they have a porsche gt3 rs (which is not the case at all).

The alfa judges just looked unimpressed as it was a waste of their time.

When they did the original buy a car for under £1500 i found it entertaining, but these days it's just a piss taking contest.

Its an entertainment program now,its not all about cars anymore.

Clarkson even wrote in his newspaper coulmn the other day its all about ratings and making money..The way the show is now it attracts more people who have no interest in cars, without the ratngs they wouldnt get airtime.

I still like it,even thought its 100% scripted and it has all the stupid stuff its better than most the stuff on tv,if they brought back VBH it would be even better though.

I know i would rather see supercars as opposed to a ford mondeo on TG.

It doesn't bother me that its not just about cars now. I like the fact its an entertainment show. I prefer it a lot more to the old TG's. But then other people watch the program for other reasons.

Exactly, they should have done a track day with similar cars and not a bunch of porsche GT3s etc

Exactly, it was funny the first time round (few series ago) when they wrecked the Toyota pick up and it kept going, but now its just repetetive.
