id either have the 1.8 or 1.7 derv
nothing else, 1.0, is slow, 1.2 does the job, 1.4 is a tat faster
1.3 dervs i hate, no throttle response, but do 65mpg
1.7 derv is what i would have all day long

Agree with the comment earlier that the 1.4 is worst in the range.
1.0 is very economical if nothing else.
1.2 is nippy enough, and economical.
1.4 is as quick as the 1.2, but uses more petrol for no gain
1.8 is noticably quicker
I have a 1.2 in SXi+ trim and TBH is the only one I'd have because the interior is so much nicer. Given the choice now, I'd go for either the 1.2 petrol or 1.7 derv.

I got a 1.4 and i really wish i'd got either an exclusiv, for the looks, or a 1.7 cdti sri for the torque n mpg (cant afford insurance on a 1.8 )

Is the 1.3 really that bad?
Next year I have a feeling I'll be getting 1 of them, or the 1.7
However depending on how tight I want to be with my travelling, it'll be the 1.3 cheap cheap tax, cheap insurance, slightly better economy = saving for my own place.
But the 1.7 better to live with. Hmmm
I stand by what I say, the only 1.4 I'd have is the Exclusiv model - has SRi suspension anyway doesn't it?!

Around town the 1.3 is nippy in first coulpe of gears and dies at national limit really. You can get to 90 and sit there with so little throttle and it sits comfortable especially for size, but when you put your foot to the floor, litterally nothing changed...it were like the throttle wasnt connected!
They are stupid good on fuel though. When my mate first got his....we filled it up to the top. Rapped it round all night...100mph down all dual carridge ways etc and we still only used 1/4 for the 150 miles
He use to get 600 miles to a tank on the combind run before he decid to drive into several people and a lamp post

Then the lad that looks after my car....he has a 05 reg 1.7 sri and he averages 500 to a tank (only never goes on a motorway though, just on dual carride way, a road and town). Low down power it good and generally all round nippy tbf but i dont think they are worth what you pay for them!

As long as the 1.3 CDTi sits at 70mph (after all, that's the speed limit) but will go 80mph to 90mph quite comfortably, then that's all I want. Well, comfortably in the sense more so than a 12v.

I'd like to get a Corsa C next year, and was thinking of a 1.4 pre-facelift SRi, because the insurance is quite good.
What's the advantage of the Elegance over the SRi?
(Trying to get this a bit more on-topic as well )

Elegance is pretty basic model - if you mean Exclusiv, then it has Irmy front spoiler/splitter, FULL leather interior with heated seats, climate, 4CD changer in the front, nice alloys, colour coded really nice car, just a shame it didn't come in derv form really.

My boss has the 1.3 CDTI Corsa C and it's mint to drive.
I can't see where you're getting no throttle response from? I find it's really responsive, quick for a 1.3 derv, and amazing on fuel.

According to Parker's the pre-facelift ones don't do Exclusiv, just Elegance.
Although I don't know much about the differences between pre- and post-facelift either tbh

Facelift look much better.
Elegance is pretty poverty spec tbh, comparable, I guess, with GLS of Corsa B.
Elegance isn't the pre-facelift equivalent of Exclusiv

Ahh, fair enough.
It's just that on that Parker's page it's the one below the SRi and SXi.
I might be able to get a facelift one when I'm looking next year, but it all comes down to the money in the end

Yeah, probably is. Comfort is more poverty spec, but SXi is the one to go for. So many were made, 'cause of 0% finance and free insurance.
Look at 1.2 16v Actives. A lot were 12v's, but there are some 1.2's about, with alloys, similar to SXi's.
That's if you want a 1.2 of course

Well I don't mind too much really, but I want good insurance and will probably have it for about 3 years or so, so don't want a 12V again
Not that the 12V's bad, but I think I'll have out-grown it by next Feb
I was thinking 1.4 because it's a fairly small-mid-sized engine, that's not a 1.2, but not a 1.8 either. Plus it'll be better on petrol than a 1.8.

i do plan on keeping the car for a long time so i need to be 100% sure when i come around to buying my C and wanna look at every aspect in the C range.
so you lot are basically saying 1.8 sri or 1.7 cdti sri?
tax on the 1.8 sri is £143 for 6 months which i think is a lot
and the 1.4 sri is £66 for months.
how much is the tax on the 1.7 cdti.im not sure if i want a diesel at the moment with me only been 21 years old and still loving the sound of petrol engines.

Same here mate, petrol all the way
That's quite a bit to pay for tax, but about right for a 1.8 I think. That's why I'm inclined to the 1.4, because it's less tax and more mpg, even if it's a bit slower, there are speed limits anyway

Also the 1.4 SRi's arent that bad, my sis used to have one. Yes its not as quick as the 1.8 but its not bad, although the 1.4 Twinport isn't too great. I prefer the original 1.4.

Is the tax seriously that bad on the 1.8?, my 206 2.0 GTi is only £90.75 for 6 months, thats crazy money to spend on car tax on such a small engine.

That's what I thought, with it being just above the SX/Ri on Parker's. The list of features was quite good too.

Do you know what the Twinport is? My mate thinks it's something to do with fuel economy, but I have no idea
That looks nice, cunningham, I love the smoked rear lights on a black C. As far as I can tell they come standard with the Twinport but if Twinport isn't worth it then I'd get them off eBay or something

Smoked rear lights are standard on Design, SXi and SRi for sure. Might be on some others too.

i had a 1.2 as a first car and it felt pretty nippy, drove a mates 1.4 and it did feel a tad quicker. not excessive but you could feel that it was a little bit perkier...mainly when moving tbh!
i picked this up v cheap(5 door maybe?!?!)
but its a 1.8sri and it is loverly. its is quick(went from a 1.8t passat) and wouldnt say it felt any slower, engine sounds loverly too after about 3.5k! altho it does lack a little torque top end.

so i would say
that a 1.4 would be a decent option if u didnt want something rapid, but something a little more than a 1.2 sxi!! id 100% go for an sri, late pre or facelift so u get the decent wheels, mirrors, spoiler etc etc just upto u whether u want a 1.8 or whther u can settle for the 1.4!
i just paid £210 tax for a year and get about 80miles to a tenner(seems too good tbh!!)
