I had to go to court for a similar incident, all captured on CCTV which was shown to the court but it was a bloke coming at me with a 1.5L bottle of WKD or something similar, the judge commended me for my actions and said given the circumstance he wouldnt have convicted me of anything had i put him to the floor!

i wouldn't like to hit a woman and never have but say if a group of girls were beating up my gf,sister,etc then i would.but i doubt i would hit a girl if she hit me,unless she really hurt me.tbh most girl's will lay into a bloke because they know they won't get hit back.but there is still no excuse for beating the crap out of a women.

I've got an opinion on this subject...
I once had a 'mental' girlfriend that i had the misfortune to buy a flat with (obviously before I found out she was mental)
After a few 'rows' over a period of time, she came at me with a kitchen knife....would you take that 'beating'?
Fucked if I did, I took the knife off her....minutes later her dad was at my house claiming I had broken her wrist 
Given the shit I got after that, i should have just punched her lights out...it wouldn't have made any difference whatsoever to my social persona at the time

I most situations its would be wrong but if some overweight man beast can throw punches like a man then she also take punches like a man. Just because they are a different gender doesnt mean they are weaker in some cases.

I once mocked some dumb bints laugh who was a friend of a chap that smacked me down about an hour previous.
She started laying into me aswell. Punched me in the face 3 or 4 times. Was quite confused about what to do, but what came out of my mouth was: "Yeah, do you wanna fucking stop that now". and she did. Very bizarre.
Mates (even the girls) were saying i should have just punched her back, but it never even crossed my mind at the time.
she did more damage than the bloke did though

Been in a self defense situation where a 15st+ fat bird was punching me while i fought her boyfriend.
Battered the boyfriend and restrained the bird, she blacked my eye, cut and bruised my face. As ugly as she was knocking her out didnt even cross my mind.

i hit 2 girls when i was 12 i think. they were about 14-15 come along picked up my football i asked for it back they said come and get it so i went over and they both started laying into me  i just threw a few punchs and legged it with my ball got this mental lass who i knew to beat them up though

Woman who was coming at me with a weapon - e.g glass bottle - yes.

Until you are in a situation like that you can't really say what you're going to do tbh.
If you were to ask me now what i would do. I would say no. I just couldn't punch/hit a girl. Its not something i could do, as imo its just simply wrong.
But who knows what i would do in that situation. Hope i wouldn't though.

i have never hit a woman in my life my partner has slapped me before i just through her on the floor and held her there until she calmed down
but tbh there is only so much i could take before hitting them back
i have always been taught to hit lasses back ever since my dad was out with one of his mates
and his mates lass was having an argument with a few outher girls his mate went outside with his lass and put her in to a taxi to go home
after about 20 mins my dad went out to see where he had got to and found him lying on the floor with his face covered in blood
after she got in the taxi they started with him they started to lay into him but he wasint the type of person to hit a girl
the got him to the floor and was stamping on his head and face he had 2 holes going straight through his cheek(staleto heels) a broking jaw and eye socket
all of the people who said they wouldn't hit a woman
if you seen that happen to your best friend/brother can you honestly say you wouldn't go and start punching them as soon as you seen it happening
and dont say you would go and restrain them easier said than done with 5 people
