Event Operations Manager at the Renaissance Manchester Hotel, part of the Marriott Group .

I run the Event Ops Department which is basically conference and banqueting. I manage 35 staff and the department turns over about £2million a year.

I went to uni and did a degree in hotel & Catering Mgmt, then got on the Marriott graduate program, and here I am now. I have also had a brief spell working for Hilton.

Im a brickie/labourer.

I knock down walls,
dig up floors,
grind and paint steel H-beams,
erect acrows and 'strongboys' to hold up ceilings/walls,
collect tools / deliver tools,
mix cement
play with power tools regularily
drink lots of tea, fart and sit on my arse

I got the job by asking my dad if there were any vacancys in the company he works for, and there were!

work - Product designer for Mathmos Ltd

tasks - Design new products and innovations for Mathmos and sister compant DWeNe. Cad drawing, prototyping, testing, managing interns.

how i got it - 4 years at uni with a BA hons degree in Product and furniture design, went for interview for a design internship, dod 6 month internship and got offered a full time designer role with promotion.
