Its quite mesmerising isnt it!
Yeah it is. My damsel is quite funny. She kinda swims backwards and makes all the sand go everywere, she normally does it if the other fish are coming towards her...
Some are quite aggressive. My maroon clown was the worse, now the poor thing is ill and i dont think i can save him.
The shrimp was ace too.. loved his big claws.

I think you will get better deals in shops to be honest. You need to see you tank rather than on the internet. We got ours from the shop we buy our fish from and he always gives us a really good discount every time.

Yep 12g is tiny, its a nano tank. these are much much harder to keep over larger tanks.
Rember 1ppm of nitrate in my 12g is going to be 4x as bad as 1ppm in a 50g tank. so i understand it.
Main problem is keeping things stable, and its bloody hard in a small tank. a sudden drop rise in any of the parameters can be deadly.

For anybody interested in a marine tank, the best thing i can recommend is the new orca tl-550, its 130 litres, and a very nice design, same as mine, but obviously bigger equipment. All you need is a few bits, to have it running nicely

Agreed, but, u need to be seriously loaded to start and maintain it.
Just for a 500litre/100 gallon tank (not that large, and would need a sump) you would need a minimum of 50kgs of living rock, probably nearer 75kgs, thats 500-1k straight away. 100g of ready mixed salt water (not the cheapest way but an example) thats 100 quid. probably 30-40kgs of sand, thats like another 100 quid.
Thats before you add skimmers, reactors, pumps, heaters etc etc
But the spending/time consumption is more than worth it when u watch them

u do need live rock, well unless u go the really expensive route.
quote: Live rock (‘LR’) is remnants of coral reefs which are ‘farmed’ in tropical countries (commonly Fiji and Indonesia) and have usually been colonised by small life like tube worms, tunicates, algae, and most importantly for reefkeepers, the bacteria which break down ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.
In most modern systems, live rock is the only form of biological filtration (the so-called 'Berlin method’). Its advantage over other methods (trickle filters, canister filters, etc.) is that it will remove nitrates instead of allowing them to build up. As it is the heart of a reef tank, it is worth buying the best rock you can afford.

Ahhhhh ok, they mentioned the 450 saying the 550 was just an improvement. Never said it was over twice the size
With the 550 what else would I need to buy and how much would these other bits cost me?
