Its not just about if they are "bad" for you that is the reason they are illegal. There are many factors why it just isnt that simple.
there is no way in a million years that cocaine opium etc will be legal, its too addictive. Even if the drugs were legal, it prevents addicts from working no one in a sane mind would employ somebody not in control and working possibly intoxicated. So they would have to stil beg steal and borrow. So wont change a thing.
aparently ecstasy isnt addictive so id be for legalising it tbh. But a government wont do that unless they are certain of the risks for legal reasons. Both short and long term. So even if they do it wont be for a long time

It might not be addictive in itself but the feeling it makes can be, Its stupid they should be making the punishments harsher not on about reducing them.

As Jodi says ecstacy isnt addictive, but the feeling it gives can be, it makes things 10x more intense and to get that feeling again you would have to take another hit.
