I dont think the fuel protest of 2001(?) will ever be repeated on the same scale.

Out of interest, (and a serious questions as I was only 15/16 at the time) what was the result of the fuel blockades? Did the companies bring the price down?

No... There just wasn't a lot of fuel.

There will always be enough fuel for emergency vehicles though. Shell near me has to turn off pumps to the public when the fuel reaches 3k litres in any of the 5 tanks.

Edit: IIRC Asda got fed up of it first and started a price war with Tesco

Fuel protests in the UK, infact protest of any kind in the UK are useless. People don't stick to them or find any real resoloution.

France and Spain on the other hand literally bring the country to a grinding halt and in 9 out of 10 protests they have an noticeable impact. Farmers drop trailer loads of vegetable onto the motorways and main trunk roads into cities, they block forecourts with hay bales - they generally make a better job of protesting than we Brits do!

The problem in the UK is that as soon as supply of fuel goes down, the garages will whack 5-10p per litre on top of the already over-inflated price, sell every last drop to panic buyers, make a killing for a week, shut for a week then re-open as normal!
