TBH then its not really starting salary.
Still though, thats
Well its a starting salary for the job.....if you were to walk straight into it. A OIM Manager on a decent size Rig gets 100k easy.
Its like saying a Plumber makes 30k...................you've got to do 4yrs on the tools before you get the proper pay.
Its good money, job can be demanding at times, imagine winter, 300 miles from shore & 14x12hr shifts to be done.

thing is, it's all relative... £26k living at home is ok... you'll be taking home like 21k after tax.
but living in say london, it'd cost a lot on rent etc... not leave you much left at the end of the year.

who spends £21 grand living at home, what the fuck do people spend the money on, or how much rent do there parents take :/.
i get £300 - £500 working part time when im not at uni, pay rent, car insurance petrol ect and still have a bit of disposable income left.
when i was working full time i had thousands saved up in a few month whilst living at home.

Im in London...on a decent wage...
Its not as bad as everyone makes out regards renting...yes its more than other places in the country but you can get a decent enough flat for around £700 a month down here...
Back in Liverpool there are flats for that in town...albeit better quality etc..but you get what I mean...its only an extra £200 on what the comparable flat back home would be...
Plus down here I have started on near on 16 grand MORE than what my starting salary would have been at home...
Add to that I dont have a car to run anymore...next year my money goes up...then after my second year I get my Range Rover sport...

i graduated this year, I now have a useless health and sports degree. i'd cream over 26k a month, i've lived on part time jobs wages for last 6 years, living at home obviously, but i've learnt to be good with my money. Hard to find jobs to apply for over 12k around here, its a joke. Unless your a self employed tradesman, my best mate it racking 900 after tax at the moment as a joiner, but as he saidwork isn't guarenteed etc.

I was on £25k when I worked at royal & Sunalliance (when I got asked to leave)

Did you mean to say can't?
I'm only on £11k a year and whilst living it home, I still have enough for a brand new car and save a load too.
I could easily live away from home on £26k, if you can't, you spend WAY to much on random crap TBH.

No, you'd cut down on all the stuff you don't need right now and concentrate on more important stuff
