For those that aren't on MLR... a reply by Simon.

Quote:
Thanks for all the kind comments from everyone, feeling Ok if a little sore today!

Everyone has their own opinions on a situation based on experience and vision of the incident, whether it be from inside the car or on video afterwards.

Some facts for you though;

1) I think the accident was my fault, but at the time could not be avoided.

2) The first thing I did was ask the other girl how she was, apologised and shook her hand in the medics room.

3) I was not driving beyond my talent or ability. This was a bad racing incident for which I feel responsible.

4) Gary stopped me from overtaking him at the Esses one lap earlier when we touched side by side, I had the inside line and he had to take the grass. At this time I had gained a position by
virtue of me being in front into the corner on the inside. On the following lap I tried to out brake him on the outside instead and locked up meant me having to take to the grass. I ended up in front and did not know that I should yield this gained place, I held my hand up to appologise but did not know what was the correct etiquette. I have spoken with Gary about this and appologised.

5) I already stated to one of Chirssy's friends that if Castle Combe declare the accident my fault I would pay her £1000 towards her repair bill.

6) Something needs to be done about the differing speeds in this championship, no one has more of a right to be in it than another but the speed differential is dangerous.

Finally I will be back with another car next year and intend to silence all the people who say I can't drive and do my talking on the race track.

Cheers all and sorry to Chrissy!

chrissy;s reply
As you may guess I am Chrissy from the Castle Combe Saloon Championship, Red 106 GTi Car, number 12.

Firstly Simon, How are you feeling today? Hope your ok?

Secondly, Can we please stop pointing the blame? It was a racing incident and we both walked away, surely that is more important than who's fault it was. Don't get me wrong I could've done without a repair bill as this is my first session (Obviously a lot of money went into to getting the car ready) but whats done is done, now we need to sort the cars out and get ready for next season.
Simon has generously offered money if CC say it was his fault. Most people wouldn't have bothered cos thats racing. Unfortunatly the damage to my car isn't just cosmetic. It needs a new rear beam and there is damage to the wishbones and drop link arms, also the front chassis leg may be bent. It could be a case of buying a new car but that is for me to deal with.

I'm sure Simon feels bad enough already without you lot hammering on about it. If anyone has the right to be shouting about this whole incident its me and as you can see i'm not so can we please drop it.

Thanks Chrissy

Who gives a crap, its motorsport, accidents happen. Every driver takes a risk in that they could get hit by someone else. Its not like a road accident.

How do you come up with that one?
If anything it proves that evo drivers think they own the road!

As said a racing accident but it could never be blamed on the 106 thats for sure!

Grr can't believe the amount of evo drivers going on about how good is offer of a grand is. ITs not worth anything unless combe pin the blame on him which is unlikely and he knows it!

Nasty, seen this earlier. Thing is as someone has already said, slower cars shouldn't really be out there with the big boys although I'm not saying it wasn't his fault. Racing accidents happen.

yep,

However, that fence hasn't been there that long....and it would have been real nasty without it, I could really see the evo making it as far as the paddock....which would have been really nasty

I've watched that footage a fair few times now, and IMO it would be a close call as to what happened. Seems to me he missed the first apex and understeers from there on in....I dont doubt clipping the muddy second apex didn't help.

Pug or no pug, IMO he would still have gone off the black stuff.

We can only guess about that though

I agree with the easily avoidable comment, from a road driving point of view he was going too fast.

But this is racing and I can see exactly the reasons for keeping the speed up - there are two cars in front in the same class who made it past the 106. Traffic really shouldn't prohibit the third Evo maintaining the pack.

Entirely his fault and the contribution really won't go anywhere but that is motorsport for you. I've seen incidents which are more unfair in which there has been no such goodwill gesture.

its bloody hard racing, so much to think about. and the other cars on the track all seem to be doin similar

only thing i noticed is his car seemed to be struggling for grip, might just be how i percived it,

but as i said before its a racing incident, a bad one but it happens all the same

i wouldnt say its really struggling for grip.... its just a damn fast Evo that understeers at the limit, rather than oversteers.

His driving does seem a bit rough and ready though.... a bit like mine

everyones bad mouthing norris about his speed and driving line but look at the 106, its right in the corner moving at about 20mph whereas 3 evos just bounced over the armco at 70+

shes as much to blame as he is and his car is a complete wreck but because he has money nobody feels for the guy

Jesus thats a bad accident! Shit happens in motorsport though, you have to expect this sort of thing can happen.
The girl is lucky she even got offered money tbh. Im actually surprised and how well the 106 held up.

From what I have heard and now seen on the videos he isnt that great a driver, he relies on on having silly HP under the bonnet to get him round the track in decent positions.

And seeing the videos show him taking some strange lines through bends. Not saying I am a racing driver here btw

CC wont say whos fault it was so he wont be paying her any cash I wouldnt imagine..

Bit like Gran turismo then, relying on big BHP and bouncing off other cars to get rounds bends etc

he should try forza 2 TBH
