I spent money on that. And true, I could've got something else, but it was built not bought, so I could've saved for years and spunked the cash on something fancy, or built something nippy and unique over the years that I've owned it

only difference in the s1 and s2 conversion is that with the s1 you need a slim line fan and to slightly modify the rear gearbox mount this takes an extra 10 minutes work.
a healthy standard rallye can do the 1/4 mile in under 16 seconds but these cars arent meant for blasting 1/4 mile times out. theres not many standard cars this side of an impreza/evo that could keep with them at full whack down a country

Rob_lee drove my S1 back from the garage for me last night and the reaction I got was that he was very impressed. Maybe not for the speed for sheer fun.

yea exactly imo the standard engines are allot more rewarding to drive, they are allot more camier and like to stay up in the revs better. id take a s1 1.3 8v over a 16v any day for sheer thrills (dan)

the 16v lump is a million times better then the 1.3 8v, the 1.6 8v is better but id still rather the 16v lump, its better in every way, performance, power, tuning etc.

With the 1600 bottom end in my S1 the 200mm fly is obviously heavier and seemingly less revvy but the new lightened item goes through the revs so quickly it sounds great. The 16v is probably great fun and I admit I have been very hypocritical recently and considered one for my rallye with all the problems I had recently.

Just out of interest how many times do they make down a full 1/4 mile, onl asking as there are two cars that will always spew their guts down the strip an hold everyone up, one is a RX7 an the other is 106GTI's?

I spy a photo opportunity.
Here's my 16v 106 Rallye currently minus its 16v motor as its undergoing a transformation into a super duper hill climb car.

And here it is in action at Doune hillclimb in 2005.

I really really like S1 rallyes, especially with the 16v and a rallye box on it. the fact that you can build one (buy a shell and 16v engine) for less than the cost of properly XE'ing a corsa makes them unbeatable value for money, faster and better handling car too.
Infact if I build another hot hatch it would be a rallye with 16v engine on tb's.
