they r open until 8 anyway. my argument is its not very motivational for me to have been fully qualified for 6months with certificates to prove it now, they have had my certificates for two months and keep putting it off every time i go to talk to someone about pay. Slaters are shit, if every vauxhall garage in the area wasnt owned by slaters then i would be out of there straight away. looking into going to university come september now anyway. Lets face it, in slaters there isnt really much room for promotion etc

Agree with a few people that people are getting mixed up with depression and having nowt to do, if you are concerned that you are depressed you should go visit your local GP.

yes me uni, look at things in the long run for me where i am now? great i have got a qualification under my belt but there isnt really much more progression i can make within the company. If i go to uni i can specialise in a certain area of engineering, gain more experiance and hopefully a better, more rewarding career in the long run

Perhaps it is laughable you have depression, alot of people think they have depression where really they havent.

Though that isnt the best way to go about it, perhaps if you still feel 'depressed' you should go see a different GP for a second opinion.

Its crossed my mind a couple of times during the duration of my apprenticeship its only now being looked at more seriously as my brother is off to uni in september and my family were all having a big chat about it earlier today. I didnt think i had the confidence to do it personally but with supportive motivation from my family im really up for doing it now. I think this will help my "feeling flat" moods im having at the moment as i know i would be going somewhere with my life. Im just looking into them now Will, dont suppose you know which unis specialise in engineering etc do you? = currently looking at what Hereford uni offer

Sheffield & Leicester are the top uni's for engineering mate. If you're serious about doing it, then go for it, theres no point staying in a job if you know you're not going to get anything more than you're already getting. Apply to the uni's if they say no, they say no. No harm in trying.

Tbh its good to see you have ambition and aim... if thats what you truly want to do, do it! What would be more rewarding? Staying here and waiting to get promoted to "head mechanic" in slaters or whatever, or go out and work towards your own garage? If I had the knowledge you had, i would save every penny and open a garage somewhere.

towards my own company within development would be my main ambition. Setting up a garage would be nice but i thing it would get to a point where it would peak and not be able to go further without mega bucks. Slaters has been going since 1923 and has expanded well - shame all they think about is the money in their pockets

dont worry pal, i will still sort your car out reguardless

Its mis firing a touch

As for your own company in development, you would need mega money for, ask your mum for a loan

You get bored doing the same things day in and day out. I use the weekends to do random things like going to wales, leeds or even just helping good mates out. Right now that's what i enjoy doing.

i think depression is a bit bollox. i think its overperscribed. everybody gets upset it can last a few weeks/months, doesnt mean your depressed imo, just another in word for magazines to throw around andconvince the public we are all depressed crack heads who steal cars and shoot people.

dean has a point, you need to grab life by the bollocks, take a step back, identify what is upsetting you, and change what you can change, dont like your job, get a new one, missing your gf, go out and see her! the amount of people who spend there life wishing things were different rather that changing there life is daft. theres a lady who works for me who is off with stress and depression, shesays she cant handle the stress of her job, although her work is simple, and she has no deadlines so theres no stress. she gets given what ever she wants so how is she depressed, just fuckin lazy. if you dont agree wth dean your own fault mate, dean has an opinion, same as you.

Hmmmm,

I agree to an extent, but being depressed doesn't mean you are lazy FFS.

Try waking up in the morning and wishing you were still asleep....depression is a bloody hard thing to overcome. Your comment about grabbing life by the bollocks is quite correct, however getting motivated is pretty nigh on impossible when feeling down and suffering from 'true' depression.

Also I dont think one single thing makes a person depressed, moreover its a culmination of things (little or large) that drag you down....address the little ones first, get stronger then sort out the bigger issues.

IMO I disagree with Willay here....seeing your GP will either see them laughing at you if you mention stress (They consider their job to be the most stressful) and you will end up on Diazapam. Which is one of the shittiest drugs ever. Formerly known as valium before it got a bad name for itself
