Astra for me (still )
for a 2.2 litre 147 bhp is a pretty low power out put, the focus is a 2.0 litre and is 170 bhp, that must be like a star cruiser if you think the astra pulls like a train, not trying to be argumentative but the 2.2 is by no means fast. The 2.0 16v found in the SRi's is a much better engine in my opinion, not that the 2.2 is a bad one, my friend is more than happy with his 2.2 and being a passenger is a nice place to be in one of these cars

The Astra will have a better mid range though. The Focus' 170bhp will be at the top of the power band. The Astra will have more usable power but the Focus is the better handling car.

just to add a bit of spice to it all,
http://www.channel4.com/4car/rt/vauxhall/astra/467/5
fairly decent review and sums the astra up well, its a cruiser not a sports car
