Was going to say the same, they will be able to tell you what to do and show you which machines will work the areas you want to tone
I do an hour of cardio twice a week and usually a class - either 20/20/20 (20 mins step, 20 mins aerobics then 20 mins cool down yoga) body pump, kick boxing, aquarobics or an hours swim.
Seeing as you dont have much to loose (half a stone, a stone tops i think) you really need a plan done for you
While im here does any one have tips for people who have alot of weight to loose (awaits nasty comments ) i have lost 2 stone 5lbs now, with more to come off and my skin ... you can imagine glad the weight is coming off but not so glad on the results on my tummy

Its a pain in the arse i would rather have a little bit of extra skin than a fat tummy
I eat healthy, we have one night off a week as a treat (I know i should be 110% but having a treat is the only thing that keeps me on track )
Phi, just get a plan, your stick thin as it is... it wont take much to get you where you want to be

Just keep on track, you'll get there in the end.

Yeah, it does stop me from going mental. Plus when we have an off night we aren't mega bad - we dont go and have a korma from the indian we will have a small pizza from tescos with salad and half a healthy living garlic bread, so bad... but not seriously, life changing, put on half a stone bad
I will get there, i have to be my target weight for my wedding... so Richie can breathe a sigh of relief for a while!

You can't focus on a body part and just work that bit lol. By doing stomach crunches and sit ups doesn't mean your burning the fat from your stomach. Like someone said above stomach is one of the last places to burn off, and the last bit is a tough bastard as most people always have a little bit left at the point just under there belly button.
The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism = faster you can burn fat and keep burning it all day. I would advise you to do weights FIRST then do cardio, and you need to do cardio at around 60-70% of your heart rate. I don't know how old you are but subtract your age from 120 and that will be your max heart rate, don't work at that max, remember you need to be doing 70% of it. I'm 21 nearly 22 so when i work out i usually aim for around 120/130 bpm. You only work harder if your focused on doing cardiovascular work to become physically fitter and not burn fat.
Eat every 3 hours if possible, eat clean (by clean i mean no crap junk food, no food full of sugars). Make sure you have some protein in most meals, chicken/fish/turkey are good sources. You don't need to calorie count at your stage, but remember to lose FAT (not weight, common misconception) you need to burn more calories than you take in.
Don't weigh your self to much, take one weight then weigh yourself once a week at the same time every week. Weight might not fluctuate much due to building muscle, but don't be disheartened if it doesn't drop much, take pictures of yourself thats the best way. Pictures won't lie and you'll see if your progressing.
It takes dedication and effort, try not to miss a work out either, if you miss one/two then you have increased the chances of stopping by 80%. Don't go to mad at first either, spend the first week finding your comfort limits, such as comfortable weights and the machines you like.
Crosstrainer/Rower/Bicycle are low impact so good for your joints
Running machines are high impact so can irritate your joints if you have joint problems
Good luck

Not missing sessions is very good advice, I know that if I just went once or twice a week that id be a lot more likely to just kinda not bother, and slip back out of the habbit. I go twice a day now, but if for any reason I cant make it I will go on the weekend aswell to catch up

Btw drunkenfool your body is probablly in a catabolic state now if your diet is cereal/meat/cereal for break/lunch/dinner :-P
Means your burning muscle instead of fat, so if your trying to trim down you'll just look skinnier in some places but fat in others! If you don't mind burning muscle (if your big to start with) then it isn't as much of a big deal
I'm annoyed as i've spent the last 4 weeks with Campylobacter disease so haven't eaten much or slept, went into a catabolic state and lost alot of my muscle, luckily muscle memory shold mean i get it back a bit quicker

I figured getting some carbs before exercise was a good idea, then protein for lunch when i dont exercise. What would you reccomend to lose fat not muscle? My arms and chest are definately getting more toned, but ive still got some fat to loose!

Your metabolism needs to be going all day, burning fat all day. This means you need to eat every 3 hours, not big massive meals but smaller meals but eat about 5/6 times a day. In these meals you should include clean foods.
Slow burning carbs before workout is fine yes, but you need to have them at least 45min-1hour before workout. If you eat them just before your body hasn't digested it properly so you will still infact be burning muscle whilst there. I work 9-5 in an office all day, go to the gym in my lunches and this is what times i eat (i wont go into what i eat etc as its diet specific to me and i use supplements etc)
Wake 6am: 45min of Cycling at low rate, 120-130 bpm. Usually do this whilst watching a TV show episode
7am: Breakfast (Oats are best here, plain scottish oats, slow release and slow burning so will keep you going for 3 hours)
9.30-45am: Breakfast 2
12pm: Lunch
1pm-2pm: Gym (weights - mon/tues/thurs/fri split)
3pm: Afternoon snack
6ish pm: Dinner
9/10pm: Before bed snack (again not junk food shit)
This is down in simple terms, you need to eat certain stuff, at certain times but that doesn't apply to you at the moment unless your training alot and live a bodybuilding lifestyle.
For you i reckon best keep it simple, avoid junk foods, sugars, bad carbs such as chips/crisps etc. Eat small meals at 3hr intervals, this keeps your body from being hungry (and goin catabolic) and also keeps your metabolism running like a fat burning furnace.
I just noticed u swim at 8amish, So i'd say wake at 6.45/7am, eat breakfast like some oats or so, swim at 8 for an hour or so, then WAIT an hour after cardio, this is a prime time where your body is still burning for an hour after, let it burn the fat. Then eat an hour later for your 2nd breakfast at say around 10/10.30ish. Then lunch at 1ish, afternoon snack 4ish, dinner 7ish or whatever. You dont need to worry about bedtime snacks really.
Remember swimming for 2hours doesn't mean your burning more, probablly doing more harm than good. An hour at a nice controlled pace is just as good. Only need an hour in the gym.
