I had to slow down, to overtake some cyclists on a back road. Was in 3rd gear and nothing, dropped to second and I practically left the gearbox behind.

BTW what's the difference between the standard dump valve and an aftermarket one, say a bailey?
depends what you mean by bailey, atmospheric or recirc? Noisy or not? Standard dv is crap, leaks easily and imo a must to upgrade. Id recommend a forge or bailey recirc valve, if you want the noisy ones then id go for turboXS or HKS ssqv along with a bailey fitting kit. Ive had bad experiences with bailey atmospheric valves so imo id steer clear of them
but what do they actually do? I mean the difference between the aftermarket one and the standard one?

holds more boost, less prone to boost leak, they also react faster.
even more important if you have a remap

Ive got a Forge 007P on my S3
only difference is build quality, the standard bosh valves are prone to sticking, wont give you any performance gains. DONT go for an atmospheric, it will give you engine management nightmares.
a 007P and a K&N filter with drilled airbox will give you a nice sound but nothing like a scooby etc..
sounds even better with something like a cone filter / induction kit but you run the risk on nackering your MAF

Ok, let the rant begin:
Id always wanted an atmospheric dv so i thought fuck it, ill try one after being warned they dont work. So i tried and yep, it didnt work. That was until i moved it from its standard location over to the pipe from throttle body to intercooler. After that it worked superb and i never had a single problem with it affecting engine management. I then told people on audi sport it worked, several followed and had great results but still got shot down in flames for it. I then set about changing my dump valve a few too many times and found the best one was the HKS SSQV and it worked a treat. Many people can back me up on this, including Jr, who drove the car. I know its not to everyones taste to have an atmospheric dv but it really pisses me off when people say it doesnt work when it obviously does.
Saying that though, id still recommend a recirc valve for optimum performance and cost as it can work out pricey buying the fitting kit, dump valve and spare hose (you have to cut the intercooler pipe to fit it)
