Get a 3 door.
Look at Icy's garage or web page to look at his mark 3 for inspiration!

I will.
..but I've just seen this which is very similar to the ebay auction.

( probably the only view where the 5 door looks okay tbh! )

TBH the 5 door golfs aren't bad at all, i'd just prefer a 3 door. That one looks very smart, has the right lights, VR6 splitter, Wheels look alright, looks quite nice.

I'm torn between the MK2 and MK3..
I guess it'll be whichever turns up first!
This is so near to me and a good price:
Link!
If only it wasn't a 1.8, insurance will be about a grand and I doubt I'd be able to afford petrol!

Get a mk2 golf 1.8 driver, same engine as a GTi & once you stick the GTi cam in it produces the same power, lower insurance, still good looks!!
Ive got a GTi cam for sale btw

At your age i'd go for a 306 dt, group 5 insurance and you can tweek the fuel and turbo to get 110ish bhp, spot on. Just avoid 1.4's and straight diesels. Best thing about 306's is you can pick them up dirt cheap and parts are all over the place, loads in scrap yards etc, so always cheap to fix. I fried my engine so got a new one put in 350 all included, enigne with 46k on. . THere are a few common problems but most are easily fixable, often electrical or suspension components like drop links etc.

dont get a 306. i had the same decision to make and think i made the right choice.

much more space than the corsa, built more solid than any other car ive been in or driven apart from an audi or my uncles aston martin, mine being the vr6 its very smooth and also quicker than my xe corsa was, the leather for them is not that dear to pick up if you scoot around on ebay, 306's arent half the car even though they are newer, the build quality is no comparison and parts are very cheap for golfs aswell. go for the golf mate

3 door 1400cl's arent that dear to insure either, my sister has a 1400cl polo sat on the drive for when she passes and insurance quotes are coming through at 700 for her first car! i dont think they are all that slow for what they are either but that wont be what you are buying it for will it, look out for rust on tailgate, around petrol filler neck ( as tank and filler are one piece - dear job to replace) and rust under/around the sills, thats all i was told to look for.

Agreed. And in the 3 and a bit years I've had mine, it's done over 35k miles and other than normal services and wear-and-tear (tyres, brakes) it's needed no more than 2 track rod ends and a couple of bulbs, so it's not exactly hard to find a reliable one.

306 Rallye Brilliant engine.
Xsara VTS
Golf GTi Mk2 16v
Golf VR6

Really is a toss up between the MK2 and MK3 Golf. I guess it'll be whichever comes first. Haven't ever been in either yet though..
