Surely impreza's aren't too juicy pondering down a motorway? I know my ibiza was very economical on a long journey, just have to stay off the boost! As soon as you get heavy footed your fucked!
If i was you i'd be looking at a skoda fabia VRS! or a Seat Ibiza Cupra tdi 160, both are quick, have buckets full of torque, look cool, 6 speed so will be happy down the motorway and give good mpg. just my opinion anyway, if your a badge freak get the golf. or a lupo gti!!!!

Golf GTTDI
Astra Coupe/Convertible
Ibiza Cupra
Clio 172 Cup
Mini Cooper S
My choice would be Favia vRS though, sporty looks, nippy, fairly economical and has German build quality.
MkIV 2.0 Golf GTi isn't even worth contemplating

oh! What do you get giving it some? THat is awful! I thought my ibiza was bad but that would return a good 35mpg on the motorway, could see 17mpg when booting it.
What about an ibiza cupra? get one around the 6k mark and you could get a 52 plate, has all the extra's climate control, ac, electric everything, and you get change! And they aren't too juicy on motorways, and can look cool.
