Couple down. Chaps name is Monster. Of course the belt snaps. That's the ultimate failure that causes broken things! The fact the idlers cause the belt to snap is irrelevant. Belt guides (idlers, tensioners, water pumps) are the cause of 95% of belt snappings anyway. Hence why the interval was chopped from 80k steadily to something silly like 40k.

His belt was not snapped.

The fact of the matter is, the belt is not notorious for snapping.

How do they not? They can wear down to a jagged edge and chew the belt in short order. Causing a snap.

So what happened?

Yes they are. That's why Vauxhall have steadily reduced the replacement interval for them.

mine were ment to be swapped by vauxhall, they didnt and this later caused the belt to slip and fuck the valves. took the head off and belt was in 1 piece still

The idlers do not wear down to a jagged edge, the bearing collapses, then the tension is lost, but everything can still turn, meaning bent valves, if you are unfortunate enough.

This is the reason for the cambelt intervals, not because of belts snapping

I'm talking in general, that's how can idler can cause a belt snap. I seen the idler taken from a 2001 1400 16v Polo with the AUA engine. The belt on that was lucky to survive. You could have cut glass with the edge on it.

Yes, I agree, that can happen, but that's not the common cause of bent valves on ecotec engines.
