I went from a 1.4 8v 60bhp corsa to my XE Corsa. I find the only problems ive had have only ever been sensors which are expected due to the age of the engine. Apart from that it has been very reliable. The fuel economy is the same if not better in my XE than it was in my 1.4 corsa and 1.3 fiesta. They feel absolutely rapid at first if you arent used to having a powerful car but you soon get used to the power and learn how the car handles etc so i doubt you'll go killing yourself in it but i will say watch what your doing in the wet and around the twisties. If you do the conversion make sure it is setup to handle the extra power propperly. Insurance for me at 19 with 1yr NCB in a high risk area with all mods declared was only £1338 TPF&T with Adrian Flux.

ECONOMY: If you drive it like a diesel (2K RPM) gear changes it will get good milage but you dont do an XE conversion to drive it like that and once you start putting your foot down the petrol seems to disappear quickly.

you don't need to drive at 6000rpm 100% of the time though.

never said he did m8 just telling him if he boots it (which he will otheriwse why have an XE Corsa?) it will become expensive to run. When i 1st got mine i found it very hard not to boot it until the novelty wore off that is.

true m8 true but all depends on the type\age of car etc. A nice new fast car is going to still get reasonable MPG compared to an old XE engine (unless very well maintained) when booted.

If you want it that bad you will exept the high insurance, higher tax, repair bills and fuel costs, i hate it when people go on about running costs... If you don't want to pay higer running costs get a diesel or keep the 1.2, if you are gonna be sensible in it then you won't crash it, but the way your talking it sounds like you think by having a 2ltr corsa your going to be the big man and crash it by showing off, not a good way to think, have you ever driven anything with any power???? If you have the money and you like your cars i'd do it, i live on beans to have my car, but thats the sacrifice i took, i hardly ever go out on the piss as i'd prefer to be out in my car with my mates. But people are different, so if your car is not your main priority and your not dedicated to it i wouldn't do it. Bit of an essay which probably doesn't make sense but oh well!!

ok mate, then you have to think of the extra cost of buying a new car!! eg Fiesta st150 (nearest match i can think of). As i've said, except the extra costs and do it or don't, keep the cheap insurance, tax and fuel and drive around at 30 mph cos you can't afford the petrol or to buy a newer car with better effiecentcy.
