"Given enough of a straight the S would finally overtake a VR6 - but it would have to be a very long straight The handling and torque were such that an average driver would beat an S2000 through the twisties."

weird one, from a S2000 owner
i actually would back the S2k to win, in all theory it should, but still impressed with the 11yr old VR6, took a while but the competition got there in the end

Imagine an S2000 with nos though, button to start the engine AND to activate the nos

s2k is a better car in pretty much every way, that doesn't detract from the corrado being a hell of a car though

another s2k owner comment
"I doubt a S2000 would keep up with a Corrado VR6 'in the twisties'....I believe they were at the time renowned as being one of the finest FWD cars around and the 30-70 through the gears was better than an Escort Cosworth "
seems odd to me

Corrado 30-70 was 5.7. The S2000 is 5.2 so not much in it.
Having owned both S2000 and Corrado, the corrado is the better handler. You can really play with it on the limit and it's a joy to do so with great steering feedback. However the S is RWD and was ultimately more fun. Quite different cars though.
I'd expect a well driven S to be a little quicker than the VR6 and you should pull away. Put it this way, there's not THAT much difference between an S2000 and Civic Type R and having driven that too, the Corrado is probably a little quicker than the CTR and certainly a lot better handling, esp in the wet. Something to do with getting gearboxes in and out quicker considering how often they change gear

Theres one big point that people always seem to forget when comparing VTEC engines to other cars...
Hondas top cars with VTEC are not really designed to be an optimum fast road car, the VTEC crossover is high as you say and the performance is not amazing below that range.
BUT think what VTEC was designed for, its for use on a race track. Most hondas with VTEC are geared such that a good driver on a race circuit will rarely if ever leave the VTEC band during the course of a lap.
Thats where VTEC engines shine, on the track where they are meant to be used not on the road for popping down to tescos!!!
