Did you leave the bag in the tank for a while for the fish to get used to the water / heat etc?
I know its alot worse for marine but you still need to with tropical, should leave it in the bag floating for around 45 mins, then slowly add around 10% of water every say 10 mins.
All in all you shouldn't release the fish until about 1hr 30mins.
A quick entry to the tank can shock and stress the fish causing all sorts of problems including death.

No
The white pad is just added (new and dry) and put above all other pads straight into tank. When it really is dirty you lift out all the pads and bin the white one and repeat.
When doing that you clean the others with old water.

Matty - The white pads are shite. If you change them at six week intervals, it's a bit too long. They get blocked easily, thi slows down the water flow. I tend to change mine every 2-3 weeks.

ILL only have a marine when Ive a big enough tank to house a black tip reef shark, so about a 2-3,000 gal
Will always keep freshwater though as cant see me stopping collecting Piranha.

yeah you can feed them mice, pinkies, chicks, feeder fish, etc. but they'll eat prawns and stuff like that too...and its better for them.

Pygocentrus Caribe, you can shoal them and are fairly easy to keep

Super reds (basically wild version of the most common Piranha available). Video here
Caribe feeding on a mouse. Again these can be shoaled. Video Here
Now the best video, but seems its one of the biggest Piranhas in captivity I thought Id post it. Its a Pygocentrus Piraya, can be kept in shoals and obviously grows huge. Video here

depends on the type and size really.
You can shoal all the Pygocentrus type (Common Red belly, Ternetzi, Caribe and Piraya). But the Serrsalmus types have to be kept alone, if they are fairly large though (above 10" or so) then you can normally have some small community fish in the tank aswell and they wont bother with them.
