To give you a real life example, my mum is Christian and my dad is Muslim, no-one forced him to marry someone else (or another Muslim for that matter).

well i dont have to abide by anything
i dont agree with religious ramble by scaring your kids by saying if you dont follow "x" you will goto hell
not saying this is what muslims do, but its just the way i see it
same goes for this pish like if you die for allah IE in a suicide bombing you will be set free or whatever they are told

They aren't told that.
There are extremists in every religion, and as usual you normally only hear about the bad.

Anyone can follow a particular religion, the problem is when certain groups of people within a religion take their beliefs to fundamentalist extremes, and hence the ignorant among us, as shown in this very thread for example, decide to tar everyone with the same brush so to speak.
Take Christians/Catholics for example, a large percentage of them call themselves Christians/Catholics but they don't go to church every sunday or do all the other things they are 'supposed' to do, it's the same with any religion.
Islam does not force you to marry people, it's the parents that do this.

same can be said for christianity.
My mum and Uncle both went to church when they were younger. My mum didnt make us go to church, but my cousins are strict christians.

no, they go because they were brought up to believe. not forced, just the parents believe, so they do. like picking up an accent from your parents...

your confusing brainwashing with being brought up in a certain way, you will do things that your parents do and told you to do and act in certain situations when they arise due to the way they brought you up, i dont think you can consider that brainwashing?

but blowing up people (extreme example) is normal for people that practise this form of religion.
if someone told me to say prayer etc after dinner then i would say they were telling me to be a certain religion

yeah i kind of understand that bit, its just the way i see it, we were told to eat with a knife and fork because practically its the best way to eat something without making a mess, but religion in my eyes is fictious so making someone to base there life around fiction is not right imo

do you know ANYTHING about religion? or are you just being a gimp for the sake of it?
this is what Sam means about being narrow minded
blowing people up is not part of the religion.
find me the section in the bible/koran/veda that says you should blow people up.

Just because you do not agree with the practices/beliefs of a religion, that shouldn't give you the right to be judgemental about the type of person they are ("sharpest tool in the box" comment for example) based on the person's religious following alone.
Sam you must rember its hard for Steve and fellow friends to grasp the fact you must not belive everything you hear, beacause all all Muslims get forced into arranged marriages Everything in the papers is true
Dont forget Sihks and Hindus are also no strangers to arranged marriages etc but of recent through out all religions its less and less aparent.
All religions have their own traits and beliefs and as long as they are not imposing their views onto you, let them be.
Steve If that guy was fasting so what? I got big respect for people who do that then carry on doing their work without fuss. Why dont you have a pop at the chubby lass who is constantly on her fag break? I dont see no one starting threads around the time of Lent rediculing them who fast or give up things?
I have a vast array of family with many different beliefs and backgrounds but we all get on, I find it hard to see how people can disrespect other peopels beliefs when they have done nothing to you.
Due to current climate there is a lot of hatred towards Muslims which I must say is patially down to the media only highlighting the sore points, but i think you will find most not all people of different beliefs whether they be Sihk, Hindu, Muslims tend to be quite humble and have decent morals and tend not to interfere in other peoples lives. No need at all the disrespect people at all.
Half the comments in this thread are laughable and shows a lack of thinking and the 100% certainty that they read the Sun and read is as gospel.
