how can one person produce more rubbish than two
They don't - it's total wank!
Example:
My neighbours (a retired couple) often ask me if they can use my brown wheelie bin (for garden waste) as they know I hardly ever have anymore than 4" of grass in there, I lent it to them at the weekend and they have filled it up TO THE BRIM with garden waste (and their own obviously).
When the council take the normal general waste bins the neighbours on the otherside (2 x adults, 1 x 17 year old daughter) will often put any extra bin bags of rubbish they have in my bin as they can't fit it in theirs (they think I don't know... )
So in conclusion:
Me living on my own: Produces little rubbish.
Eldery couple: Produces a lot of garden waste.
Young couple: Produces a lot of household waste.
