steve has a point, i think what your not getting is that he is not slatting this car he is just stating its likt a corsa merit compaired to a corsa sport. doesnt mean much when its a corsa but it does when its a porsche!

I just think its a good car in its own right rather than being simply entry in to a brand which has some prestige.

Nice cars, poor mans porsche......dont think so!! Nice entry level sports car with decent range of engines - not everyone wants 911 turbo speed. I would have one over 99% of the cars on this site all day long!!

Some people may think of it as a poor mans porsche. I see it as an exclusive sports car. As someone said its not all about straigh line speed, handling is a big factor. And of course looks

couldn't agree more. its all a matter of opinion. i love my car, but its only a 1.0 12V!

driving on my own i dont notice it (until some tries race me from the lights) only when its full does it bother me.
owning a Porsche would be great and i know i'd love it (be honest who wouldnt?) but it only other peoples opinion that would bother me, mostly strangers opinions at that.

lets put it in perspective.
average joe, wants a Saxo, loves them. he 18, just got his licence and desperate to get some wheels. his Dad has a company car, and the family 4x4 (for his siblings) is way to big for any insurance company to accept.

he only works at Tesco, does his 15 hours but with a gf he can't save as much as he wants

he sees this

(thanks to SJM for pic)
For £11810*
Way over his budget and knows that although Dad will help with only a budget of £3k, Dad wont fit the rest

So he sees this at a more affordable £5995*

*prices taken as new car off the forecourt from Parkers

Now we all know which we would all like, but this chap is desperate to say he owns a Saxo ( avoid the jokes please, hyperthetical here)

That is some people see it. But to be fair, the Saxo First is a great car (Mom has one) its comfortable, nippy can be thrown about (Mom is a boy racer in disguise, 2 speeding tickets in three yrs!) and we have had no complaints, problems or issues and this is what our friend Joe would be thinking of, while we would judge, and dare I say mock for not getting something with a bit more street cred – I know, having a 1.0 12V doesn’t win prizes
(i live with it but feel free to slate me now! )

So end the debate, it’s a great car, entry level or not, its because it IS a great car,the grass is always greener….

I love them...but my point was its an entry level porsche...the S isnt cheap by no means but people always looks upon there drivers with the view "oh couldnt you afford the carrera"...but most of these people drive cars which are a lot less impressive than the S...

My mates is lovely...a real head turner...but the main reason he chose the Bosxter S over an entry level Carrera was price (obviously) but also the servicing costs are almost double that of the boxster...

I would own a Boxster but only the S version as the 2.5 and 2.7 would probably dissapoint me...

I'm in agreement, i'd love to own a boxter, but then again if i had the money to buy a boxter i wouldn't. If i could afford an boxter S i would buy one has that performs how a porsche should do, granted as said 5.7 to 0-60 isn't slow compared to other cars, but then again a porsche isn't an "other" car it's a porsche, it has a supercar badge/brand which a boxter non S doesn't live upto.
Imo.

Didn't they also say it was a very capable 2 seater convertible sports car too though...

no cause a cupra is not a poor mans seat, your missing the point, a seat is not meant to hold a prestige of luxury, speed, supercar etc, nor is subaru, porsche is, thats why it not a proper porsche IMO

I know what you're trying to say, but if it was fwd etc I could see what you meant about not being a proper Porsche. It has all the attributes of a Porsche, just not the premium price tag we all expect from one.

well for me it doesnt meet a number of criteria to make it a "proper" porsche

The price tag
The performance
The image
