The way to tell if the suit is any good is look at the lable. If it's made from polyester then it's shit. If there is a lot of wool in it then it is good.

I'd go for quite a bright tie like bright pink/dark blue diagonally and a light blue shirt

i had the same issue, i went to Suits You, got a Daniel Hechter (sp) suit for 180 quid. Very dark blue, almost looks black with pin stripes. Its amazing quality, fits very well and so comfortable. Cost £180. Also got a white Shirt, Gold/Ivory Waistcoat and Ivory Cravat thing. Looks

If I'm wearing a tie I never, ever wear any other colour than white with the shirt.

White shirt white tie is a gamble though

(thumbs is an inside joke btw, we don't actually all use our thumbs like that as a rule)
