How on earth did Owen bottle going back to Liverpool, granted he never wanted to end up at Newcastle but the simple fact is Benetiz didn't want him and as for him not being that good Liverpool wouldn't have been so far behind Chelsea with decent goal scorer
Explained above why, this came out of Rafa's, Rick Parry's AND Owens own mouths in an interview in the Echo.
And as for not being that good...Ive watched him at Anfield since he came through at 18. He was amazing then and IMO the best forward in the world. But then he got injured and was out for a while, came back and didnt look anything like he used to, not as pacey and his finishing was so weak and poor.
Ok he used to get around 18 Prem goals a season, but he also used to miss about 2 or 3 other great chances a game in games that we ended up losing or drawing. This isnt just my opinion, as any Liverpool fan who goes the match like I do and they'll tell you the same.
You wouldn't happen to have a link to this article would you just I've never heard thay explantion before

liverpool were the ones who bottled paying the money, he is better than people think in my opinion and at a decent club like utd where he could be the main forward getting fed alot of chances he would become one of the best strikers in the world no doubt. I also think if Man utd went for him he would defientely go, owen wants to be at the top clubs not NEWCASTLE
He knows his life wouldnt be worth living if he went to Utd, you've got to remember he and his family are all scousers and going to Utd is NEVER a good idea!!
And we didnt bottle paying the money. We just werent prepared to offer the same as Newcastle did (16mil) when he had only gone the seson before from us for 8mil.
buying crouch wasnt the answer though was it mate i really rate raffa as a manager but that decision completely baffled me.

do a search on the net, I read it in the actual paper. It was all over the place at the time though, even in some of the major daily papers. And that explanation came directly out of his mouth.

No, the decision was a good one.
He isnt designed to score 20+ goals a season. He is there to hold the ball up for Gerrard, Garcia, Kewell and Cisse to run through onto and for crosses to be put into the box for knock downs.
Gerrard wouldnt of scored half his goals this season without Crouch on the pitch holding it up for him to come through.

I actually rate Crouch as a footballer, he's never going to be an out and out goal scorer but his link up play is first class. If Liverpool could find themselves someone who can score consistantly they will be in the hunt next year

rafa will sort it this year and next year were taking Chelsea until the end. I really think Utd will fall backwards aswell if the dont replace RVN and get a few world class midfielders in.

i cant see it personally, and kewell dont get me started i personally think i am better than him and would do a better job for liverpool. How someone of his ability can make it for a team like liverpool and earn however much ££ he makes, knocks me sick

I must agree Kewell looked as though he was getting back to his Leeds form toward the back end of the season

do you think fergie is so daft he is going to sign some good players this summer, rest assured man u will be back next year. Carrick will sign, and a decent forward, get rid of silvestre cos his is just a joke to himself and football. Last 15 games united were IMO the best team in premiership they were playing some quality football came unstuck against chelsea granted, but problems with rvn etc werent helping that.

Why would Spurs sell Carrick?!!
And the form league would argue with who was the best team over the last 15 games, and it wasnt Utd!!

it isnt always a case of the club wanting to sell a player though is it mate, not nowadays contracts dont seem to be worth the paper upon which theyre written

they played poor agaisnt sunderland didnt they i was at that game. But some of the football they were playing in them last 10-15 games was like when they were at the top a few years back, attacking was frightening when they beat arsenal they were awesome and showed they still have the ability to makes teams look silly.

well it is, he must have atleast 3yrs left on his contract, if not 4. So if they dont want to sell they they wont.
