Post your normal daily diet and i'll give you my opinion on it, and be honest.

My usual daily diet

Breakfast

Either - two 100% beef burgers or sausages, with beans and then a bowl of cereal. Weight gainer with milk.

Mid-morning

Bowl of tomato soup, one slice of wholemeal bread to dip. Small portion of cheese as a treat. Plus a banana.

Lunch

Either 40g of chicken, turkey or roast beef, with salad, an apple and a orange.

Mid-afternoon

Wholemeal roll with chicken. Low fat strawberry yogurt.

Dinner

Usually either Steak, Chicken/turkey breast steaks, roast dinners, with jackets, mash or roasties plus veg.

Evening

Protein shake.

That is honestly what I usually eat everyday. May have the very odd chocolate bar if I'm having a bad day at work but not too problematic.

Doh! How can you not like chicken!

Lean steak, fish, some lean pork, decent ham

Patrick - looks ok. You should ditch the weight gainer in the morning and replace it with whey in water. Your body has been starved throughout the night and you want to absorb the whey as soon as possible. Your mid morning meal needs more protein, possibly have your weight gainer there?
I'd like to see 100-200g chicken rather than 40g for your lunch.

Sorry got that wrong, that's 40g of protein with the chicken. The actual pack is 140g.

Patrick- Get some eggs in there!

Breakfast- lose the burgers Make sure if you are having sausages they are very lean- Tesco do some own brand ones that are relatively low on fat. Cook them in a George Foreman grill

Mid morning- lose the cheese

Lunch- possibly some more carbs

Ah Craig is clued up here...first thing when you get up, whey in water for quick protein absorbtion..I get bulk whey from www.myprotein.co.uk Mid morning needs protein definately. Also your diet is lacking in EFA's, do you take any other supps other than what you havelisted? Maybe chuck some flaxseed oil in there perhaps? I havent read this wholepost but Patrick what do you weigh, whats your training split like and what is your goal? And yep as Craig said, oats are excellent, I have mid morning a shake with 60g whey, 200ml semi skimmed milk, 5 egg whites and 3/4 cup of oats, would deffo help you out mate.

Is it true that whey in water absorbs better if you have it with a meal?

I cant see why you should have it with a meal, shoud absorb fine just mixed with water and necked. Have it as soon as you get up, then get cracking with the breakfast.

Weigh 11st4 at the moment. Cut down from 12st8 by losing weight and am now trying to build up the muscle.

I train with weights every other day and do cardio on Tuesday's and Saturday's, including a 40min run, and 20min on the rower.

My goal is not to be massive, just to look athletic and be fit.

Cool. To be honest mate, your diet seems decent enough, may be worth having that shake I put above for some extra protein and carbs, add some oily fish in there and some flaxseed oil for EFA's, train heavy and keep up the cardio and you will get there mate, you seem clued up.
