sounds like you've invested a lot of time and money into it so i'd stick with it unless you're desperate for the money.

Ebay only publicised on radion adn television recently.
For a website based solely on word of mouth i'd say it wasn't doing too bad

Greg, i'm sure you said you've spent like £3k so far with everything (development, etc)
So £2k doesn't even cover costs! i'd hang onto it.

loafofbread i'm not saying people shouldn't compete.
But sometimes your fighting a losing battle.
eBay is a household name. How many websites do you know that are known by millions of people the world over?
This is only imo from what I know of course but, imo, its just never going to be a massive success.
I could very well be wrong but on this occasion I doubt it.

OK, big investment, blah blah! Because there is the like of pet megastores like PetsAtHome(previously petsmart) does that mean joe blow shouldn't have a small pet shop in timbucktwo?

Most of them have been through the success of corsasport imo.
I wonder how many are from places other than here?

Agreed yes, word of mouth is best and cheapest though.
When i get more members, more and more will join, catch 22 but i think i have got passed the worst and most hardest section.
If everyone of you joined it would be much better join join join

Yes, this is what I said weeks ago.
I don't think Greg ever expected to be the next ebay, just like Joe Blow doesn't expect to be the next PetSmart.
If it's making you money it's a winner either way.

Different. You have to drive/walk/bus to a different petstore and will still most likely go to the one with cheapest prices and biggest selection.
eBay might not be cheapest for stuff anymore but thats the consumers fault and not ebay.
I can check within about 10 seconds the stuff on ebay and ukflava.

loafofbrett, this is a pure internet based business thou with a global market your pet shop has no relevance as its customers will use it because of its locality and ease to get to. An online business has worldwide reach and has to compete globally or at least nationally.

I think i have about 10 members from cs.
I actually have well over 1000 members but many are fake / not genuine so ip's / countries are banned (nigeria etc)
I did ask Ian / Tim if they were interested in linking to this site "classifieds" but didn't seem interested which is a shame as i think it could of worked well.

Fair play, but why is there an amazon.com and a play.com and not to mention all the other thousands of internet sales websites that all sell the same thing.
If greg get even 000000.1% of the market it is successful

omg!!! please. Like brett says, im sure Greg doesnt want to compete with the big boys. does anyone consider that he's doing this part time as a hobby? because he enjoys it? and he's making a little extra money from it which im sure he's more than pleased with, if there's opportunity to make the site bigger and more known then its up to him if he wants to put the work in and do it.
sorry greg for speaking for you, but when ever a discussion, ANY discussion about uk flava comes up, people mention eBay. bollocks.
