So he never had enough money for help?? Of course it was an illness, but what a load of rubbish that he couldn't stop. He had to put the bottle to his lips and drink the alcohol, he chose to. Imagine if one of your family members died waiting for a liver, because George best got their first, and he didn't even appreciate his 2nd chance, where he had plenty of help to stop drinking, don't think you would think like you do now.

Can people please stop arguing with others for having an opinion about him wasting his second chance, some think he did and some think he didnt but im sure people will remember him for whatever reason they want.

*puts on sarcastic whinging voice*
yeh but Pele said that he was the greatest and pele takes viagra, besides, if the greatest footballer to have ever graced this planet says that George Best is the greatest ever footballer then he must be.......oh wait
*ending sarcastic whinging voice sequence*
George best was never the greatest. I was talking about this with a customer this morning, the greatest footballers are always at training and dont just turn up to training/matches whenever they feel like it.

RIP to a legend
People seem to forget he became famous in an era when people didnt know the effects booze could have on a person. He was a world wide superstar at the age of 22, he had everything, fast cars, money, girls throwing themselves at him, what man wouldnt be tempted by all this, i know i would have been. Also, footballers didnt get the advice and protection they get these days, nobody warned him of the dangers of driniking and the effects it could have on his life. He was a young lad living away from home, away from his familly and close friends, what else was there for him to do apart from go out on the lash.
Yes i agree his was given a second chance and he wasted that, but you've gotta remember he was an ADICT, it aint that easy for him/anyone who is adicted to just stop, specialy someone who has temptation all around them like Best.
IMO he was exploited from a young age by people who didnt really give a fuck about him, and were bothered about selling a newspaper, or a brand of clothing, had he been around in todays games he wouldnt have got into the situaton he found himself in back then.
As i said at the start fo this post, RIP to a legend

Yes... admittedly he was something special... but he was never the greatest - he wasnt up there with the like of pele, cruyff, maradona ( ) neeskens, gerd muller (due to his unbelivable scoring record) etc etc... pele also does a lot opf chairty work... unlike the tossbags maradona an best... he wasted a 2nd chance at life (something many never get) and wasted it due to his 'disease' as some poeple call it

Pele, Tostao, Gerson, Jairzinho, Banks, Moore, Hurst, Eusabio, Platini, Rossi, Zico, Rivelino, Carlos Alberto, Socretes, Falcao, are all worthy candidates for a place with Best as a player, none of them got hooked on booze, and Pele was a kid when he made his debut also.

So he didnt do any charity work, doesn't stop him being one of the best footballers to ever grace the planet does it

R.I.P Best-- never nice seeing talent wasted- especially when it is due to alcohol...
How can canabis be illegal yet something as destructive as alcohol is advertised on tv.
Another life destroyed by the most dangerous drug in the world. And for anyone who doubts how good he was -- read the biographies of the other great foorballers of his era... for a couple of years best was on another planet.

He didnt have to put up with the same amount of public interest that Best did.... I feel sorry for anyone that is that famous... The press built him up then destroyed him when he made mistakes
