the tax system on petrol is crap, its not flexible, just a set amount on top of the price of the oil, it should be variable, ie so much % tax per litre of oil

moaning about it doesnt help though, you have a car, you need petrol, end of.
the oil companies know that and they can charge however much they want
Its the tax.
Even if the oil company put the prices up a couple of pence there's still about 70p tax ontop of that.
A couple of p when theres a crisis or something woudln't be a problem if we weren't already paying so much.
And I wish someone would tell me why diesel costs more.
diesel costs more because the process of extracting it from crude oil is more costly in refineries.
& i dont see how reducing the tax is going to help, that money has to come from somewhere, you will just end up paying higher taxes elsewhere
Naile, meet head Exactamundo!!
AFAIK Diesel is taxed more because of the higher damage to the environment, its the same with Benefitrs in kind on diesle company cars

I get the same in my old Mercedes but have no other choice and have to lump it. 182 miles out of just over fifty six quid is no joke, especially when approx 88% of that money is taken in revenue.
In some parts of the U.S. a gallon of petrol is still not much more than a litre over here.
No wonder realy when you consider that when originally drilling oil out of the ground, the yanks were left with a nasty watery and highly combustable by-product that they had trouble disposing of, that after a little refining, has come to be known as gasoline
