The police were shocking, out numbered yes, but why wasn't plastic bullets used? They looked really untrained for a riot, why the fook did they leave the guy layin on the ground for him to get a kicking?
We don't use plastic bullets. Basically in my opinion they left it too long before they sent the lads who were properly kitted up for the job in. At the point where the Officer gets a kicking on the floor they had no riot protective kit, shields or long batons. In short they were simply not equipped to deal with that amount of people becoming hostile towards them. If they'd gone in harder sooner then they might have stopped the momentum and it might not have been so bad. However if they'd done then they would have been accused of being heavy handed and any subsequent problems would have been the Police's fault. Catch 22 really.

I see no problem at all with the police's handling of the situation. You should not have to expect that there will be thousands of neanderthals going to cross the border and loot your shops and destroy your city just because they were drunk and a telly stopped working.
I hate to keep coming back to the comparisons but the big screens in Seville broke and never showed the first 20 minutes of the game. What did the Celtic fans do? They put the music on and partied then cheered the engineers when they fixed it. What did the rangers fans do? Threw bottles and bricks at the guys trying to help. There within holds the reason for the trouble, attitude problems.

Russia will show us how to police IMO.
EVERY copper will be there kitted to the nines like an armoured ninja, and they wont take even the slightest bit of shit of any of the fans.

1st time i've noticed this thread
hammer the seville comparison is pointless you really had to be there to appreciate how much scum had travelled every decent rangers fan i spoke to got the fuck out of picadilly early in the afternoon it was that bad
trouble was brewing and the loonies would have got it no matter what
the 95% of people that travelled are thouroughly ashamed and disapointed at whats happened
we have had 9 away trips in europe this season without an arrest then manchester comes along and fucks that up

European final, thousands upon thousands of fans travel, they all get drunk for days on end, screen gets broke. I'd say that was a pretty perfect comparison.

The point is we don't have anywhere near the number of idiots in the first place to want to travel. The crazy logic at times in this thread is mind boggling.

i'd say it wasnt the fact that money had to be spent to get there in the 1st place seen off a majority of scum
what exactly are you trying to prove anyway with mentioning seville all the time? are celtic the only team to have had no trouble with fans at a european final?

If you look through the thread you'll see all i'm doing is standing up for myself and the other Celtic fans (as well as Scottish football fans as a whole) that are getting dragged down by the hooligan element of your support.
I said to John the other day i really wish none of it happened, there were no innocent parties harmed and we could slag rangers for football and only football. I take no great pride in revelling in what are absolutely shocking scenes and haven't done either.

yes you have you are practically rolling about in joy at the fact it happened, reading through the thread from the beginning you have been practically willing it to happen i find that disappointing
what happened was fucking inexcusable and disgusting and if i had the choice of getting put out of europe in the CL qualifiers or still have a run to the final i would now take getting pumped out just so that didnt happen

Hand on my heart i did not want it to happen mate. There's a difference between telling people the inevitable is about to happen and willing it to do so.
