Yeah wouldn't start yesterday which I thought was due to cold but was actually no petrol left......

The gauge is officially broken and stuck on half tank....

Instead B) Go to local motor factor

finally replaced the mass air flow sensor on brothers car today, then we couldn't get the car to start, said he'd been having problems and radio had been cutting out, anyway got it to jump start off mine and it will run - I had these symptoms with my old B when the alternator packed up, but in this case there is dry battery acid all over the battery tray and covering the gearbox - i'm guessing new battery time and hopefully not alternator? Don't really have a multimeter to test but the state of the battery suggests to me thats what it is, thinking of getting a genuine vauxhall one for him.
