Personally mate its either a duff amp or lack of power and from the sounding of it its the latter since you dont have any probs with it when you have the volume low or mid-ish, though when ya wack it up (when the amp starts to draw power) it cuts out. To be honest mate, i would look at getting a new batter and see what happens - at worst, you'll have a new battery
As for powercaps, i always thought that they stored some extra power for when the amp needs a sudden burst of it - although it would make sense if you had enough power going to it, in the first place, to allow it to quickly charge back up again ready for the next sudden burst
hope you get it sorted mate

Well i just took my headunit out as i know the problem stems from either my battery or from my head unit and the wires were fairly loose, so i made sure everything was connected properly and tried it. So far so good But i have yet to try it with my engine running, with lights and heating on etc....... If it carries on i'll get a free battery check at Motorserv and take it from there. If that still doesnt solve it then its back to CEL to see what they say.

Yea, sounds like a good idea Didnt know you could get battery checkups lol One thing you could try is see how much your amp is taking from ya battery, by wacking a DVM (multimeter) in between ya power etc Then you can work out how much you car needs (with everything on, i think theres figures in the haynes manual? etc) and see if the battery/alt is big enough etc etc just one suggestion
Eitherway mate, keep us updated! it might be useful for other people suffering from similar problems

Well my wire theory never worked, the bastard thing still cuts out. My local Motorserv do a free battery check and if u need a new one they'll fit it for free. Worth a go IMO. Plus i'm getting a new headunit next week, i'm pretty sure its not my headunit thats playing up but i'm getting a new one anyway (not because of this i might add ).
Stay tuned for more....................
