Yes you can, but its going to be rather obvious when there is a phone sat on your dashboard and to be fair more of a chance of someone breaking into your car

Wouldn't have it on your dashboard obviously, you'd hide it wherever you'll hide the box.

Any decent car thief just uses one of these:
http://www.thejammerworld.com/product_detail_en_Mobile_Phone_Jammer_Handheld_Cellphone_Jammer_HPJ-01_85.html

Or they get one that does GPS and VHF (I think?) to knock out the trackers as well.

I'm sure every car theif has got one

Its only got to kick out one packet and get a fix on a satelite for a brief second and you'll be notified that its moved, its then only got to receive a single sms message to disable the car.

You would be surprised at how many have them.

You can get ones that plug into your cigarette lighter for £15-20 these days

Obviously the 14yo chavs joy riding a corsa won't have them. But any proper thief will do.

I still disagree that it would be near useless... rather that there is a reduced chance of it being 100% fullproof than say, 10 years ago... but at less than £100, still worth considering incase the car's taken by a less experienced theif.

Its not just the theft issue either, its great for tracking fleets, rental cars or even just peace of mind if you lend your car to someone!

good idea. i'm qualified to fit Tracker's(R)(company name) but for live tracking your looking at £500 plus a yearly membership fee so could take off!

I've just skipped through the thread but as it gives you info on the cars location can it give tell you how fast the car is going? That's in reference to letting a mate borrow the car?

I'm interested in this but wont be buying one at the minute.
