Is a good idea, doesn't matter if it gets trapped between coils (as if they are going to be coil bound much anyway) it won't retain water as wetsuits dry in no time anyway, the only thing I can think of is the velcro "hairy side" might get dirt in it and make it harder for the hooks to latch on, but will be fine if left and not touched.

If the spring compresses enough for the cover to get trapped in the coil then you've got a much bigger problem!

Smart idea, I used to have a Lizard Skins protector for my mountain bike. Was exactly the same as this. Looks like a good idea.

Id be worried that over time the velcro will get wet and weaken. If the cover comes undone and falls inside the wheel it could get caught between the disk and caliper causing the wheel to lock up. Could be a bit hairy on a motorway or other high speed roads, where it is more likely to come off due to vibrations. Theres a reason noones done this before.

Really, I'm just going to use them over winter. I guess they'd be cool as a full time thing if it works well. But for now they're just a winter thing

Ready made ones would probably be expensive! Done mine on the cheap...like everything else I do lol

The spring should never bottom out, only the damper.

The threads rust and then the platforms seize. Coilovers take maintenance.

it's a good idea

another good idea would be to rub down and treat the rust on the suspension leg and inner arch/wing aswell (if you're going to be OCD about it lol)

why? the spring won't be compressed forever.


Some coilover kits have the spring designed to have coils touching when under normal load, otherwise the spring would come loose when on full droop/extension

They're quite cheap tbf, everywhere else I read they were mega.

Maybe do some treating after winter

Cars themselves rust but no one stitches 20 wetsuits together to make a car sock.

Think its a good idea and I'm curious as to whether or not it will work. I think the biggest problem with them would be the retention of moisture next to the parts which you're trying to protect. Although if they're treated against corrosion already and you just want to keep them clean then this should work.

Hold that premature update.

My fronts are dry as a bone

I'm thinking, my rears were cone shaped to allow the sheath movement,so the water could get in the tops, my fronts are tight like a tiger......

Was just thinking about all the comments of how they might fall off and cause you to crash into a school for orphaned bunnies killing everyone in sight - you guys would have a field day if you ever saw snow chains.
