after one day in my standard one
handling - wollows, unreponsive, understeers badly
power - unresponsive, no throttle reponse, drinks fuel
plus side, seats are comfactable, and passenger has height adjuster
my corsa c 1.8 sri drives much nicer and just feels sharper,

I agree its all about the whole package and the GSi doesnt even do that well. It only ticks the boxes of comfort and looking good. Then as soon as you add a set of springs to make it look good you loose that comfort. Mine rode woefully on Ebachs and that was on suspension that only had 35k miles on it! It still felt like a barge.
I would say there are other cars that can offer comfort, perfomance and drivability better IMO. Why do you think Vauxhall sold so few? It wasnt a limited edition.

its not even comfy. Nor does it feel fast. The sensation of speed is non existent. It was steady on an Mway but thats hardly difficult. If you want an Mway car buy a diesel Vec tra.
The reality is they look nice and thats it. Mine was the most dull car i have ever owned. I had it 8months and was glad to see it go. It was expensive to buy (in 2007) expensive to run and cost the same to insure as a 320bhp rwd ZMroadster. It is a waste of money. Pain to park, was dull to drive, drank fuel and left me unfuffiled. It never made me angry, never broke down, beat an undercover cop car, carried me i comfort and 4 mates + luggage. Just never stirred any emotion whatsoever.
And my corsa Let had less grip but was much more communicative to drive where i could feel what the steering/engine/brakes/chassis was doing.
So in short. Its not a "bad" car, its just not particularly good...at anything.
Plenty of other alternatives. The Astra Coupe makes more sense, far better value

best way to some it up
its an 'Okay' car
now, would you want to fuck an 'okay' bird - maybe if there was nothing else better at the time......but there is....
an astra vxr is totaly different, i cant belive the difference standard over a gsi, 10x the car of a gsi!
wont be keeping mine long, soak up a few thousand miles in europe, then i think sell it

The Vxr is in a different league. Ive only driven the one and been in 2 others but its leagues ahead. Nptably the steering throttle response and the lack of wallow by comparrison

Love mine. Handles fine with me however i dont drive mine hard. Never drove another car the same bhp wise apart from a corsa vxr which was brand new so i cant compare. My mpg is 30-35mpg. It swallows the weekly shop and the seats are comfy. It has never went wrong apart from a hole in the cat. Plus i think it looks a lot better than a type r or golf. Plenty of upgrades if you want to do that kind of thing.

I don't think the driving position of the GSi helps any of what has been stated above, it feels very awkward from what I remember.

I put the cruise on a lot as i motorway drive everywhere. I had 43 yesterday, it was a 40 mile drive each way, mostly b road averaging about 65/70mph. I only have an exhaust, i hear once you get a remap etc you would be looking at low 20s

Aye, compaired to similar mileage type r's and golfs but people would argue they are better cars.

seriouly! im gonna be lucky to get 25mpg when i drive to work, what grade fuel do you use?
and mapping it should make it slightly better, as it runs more on boost, then you give it less throttle to accerlate
but if you drive it hard, it will be worse

so true, 5k cheaper than a vxr that is 2 years newer!

I like to use v power and very rarely do i use anything else. Seemed to go well on the super tesco fuel but i dont live close enough to use it constantly. I find the car munches normal unleaded and it gives me sub 30mpg. Ive seen your corsa b video on youtube and can quite believe your mpg lol

Well i can get 160-170 from £20 of v-power. Would struggle to get past 140 on normal fuel. My car is a but odd though, once ran out of petrol with an indicated 23 miles left untill empty lol

My friend who has just swopped his for his vxr - use to give it death everywhere and only driven around town did 18-20 mpg, proper chav driving.
Other friend (the one lil g has got now) use to average bang on 30 knocking about, going to work which involves driving into nottingham city centre via 30-40 mph limits with traffic.
Use to do over 300 miles to a tank consistanly for about 3 months. (about 45 quid??)
And in the blue one (thats the one i did all the europe trip in) use to do 40mpg sat at 70 with cruise on. We did this all the way to dover and back.
Warren - you drive hard
