Most have been said, but if on a budget.

325i E30bmw
Mazda MX5
Honda Civic
Cheaper Caterham 7
Kit Car?
Clio 172/182
106 GTi/16v Saxo, still great handling cars no matter what people say.
Pug 205/309
Clio Williams/1.8 16v
Don't see the fascination with a redtop. Sure its a good fun engine, but most are long in the tooth, down on power, leaking oil. I'd rather have a bit less poke and less weight with a newer Ecotec lump. Weight is key for trackdays, esp on NA engines. Failing that I wouldn't use a VX engine at all, i'd look at something else.

Couldn't have said it better myself

less weight is free power

typical redtop owner would disagree though "be o rate stick an old 15 year old lump in insure it as a 1.2 and your away" ............. cleaning oil up and spending your weekend underneath it

I know someone who strips e36 m3's for a living.
And swaps m3 engines in to m3s.

E36 M3 engine into E36 M3 is a straight forward job.

Putting an E36 M3 engine into an E30 isnt straight forward.Alot of the conversion is covered on google etc if you search but by all means isnt easy.

Its the 1st big non-vaux conversion hes done and said it was a cunt to do with some parts of the conversion. He had it done in about 4-5 weeks tho.

Alot easier with a full M3 which he had.

I could get most parts of an m3 sell body/interior etc.

I take it you use e36 gearbox/diff

You use the M3 gearbox but not the diff as the propshaft has a different size flange. You use an E30 M3 propshaft with the e30 325i lsd/diff if you can get 1.
My mate didnt use an E30 M3 propshaft, but im not sure how he got around using his 325i prop but it worked. Not sure if he cut and welded it somehow.

The car really is in a league of its own and well worth doing.Rumour has it,it would piss on an E46 M3

E30 325 Msport.

Turbo conversion off ebay will bump it up to about 300bhp. Strip it out and they weight fuck all and handle mint as they have a very even weight distribution. Friend of mine has one as a track car with coilovers and 888's and its as fast as just about anything else on the bendy bits.

I would say use the 325 rear diff with 5speed M3 gearbox with the 3L propshaft and input flange.
Don't know about engine mounts maybe custom, I doubt the 325i or M3 mounts will be useable.

Your diff/prop idea dosnt work.Been tried and tested.
Mounts need to be a mix and match of the 325i items and E34 24v engine mounts.

IIRC it could work but the E36 Evo diff would need to be used, but then that dosnt bolt right up to the E30.Theres alot of fuking about involved.
My mate had the E30 on the ramps with all the M3/E30 props etc sitting on the floor, and mixing and matching it,nothing was going to bolt right up.I'll ask him how he got around it.
