No it wont.
In fact, it will probably mean a lot more money being injected in to the economy by consumers in various ways.

Where are you going to go? Lots of countries are thinking that this sort of thing is a good idea.

Did you see the thing on the news last week about a local council using powers that were basically brought in to deal with terrorists, in order to run surveillance on a woman and make sure her child was actually in the catchment area for a particular school?

tbf this will be just like fuel prices we'll all bitch and moan about it coming in but at the end of the day most people need their car to get about so they'll just pay it.

Of course, thats why the Govt can do it as they know people need their cars and therefore will be forced to pay this.
We'd see protests like we did back in 2000 (or whenever it was) if they do this and do not lower their tax on petrol imo.

Maybe they'll finally get their arses in gear and invest some money into public transport with the extra money? It makes no sense in them taxing people out of their cars and trying to get them to use something that costs more, is uncomfortable, doesn't go where you want it to & isn't near to where you live like they are trying to do now.

A sustainable transport plan....the Govt. doesnt understand what that means.

Basing the 'average' 10k miles per year this means that if the same pricing was to be brought to the uk would be £428 rising to just over £1k. It's absurd, and I agree with Jan, very big brother.
It's just another tax that will rise and rise... they'll keep rising prices based on the fact of cutting co2... but the reality is, people need cars.

That was the first law they needed to start making us all guilty of something and giving them the opportunity to arrest us for no reason. Makes you wonder if those July bombings in London were infact all planned by those up top to get these laws pushed through without people querying it.
Gestapo? Yes please.

And that's the reason that public transport isn't being invested in, they know full well that the alternative to using our cars is useless and unreliable.
They want people out of cars, but in cars at the same time. It's a load of horseshit.

Yup, thats exactly right.
I did a whole project on a sustainable transport plan for my A-Level economics and the Govt. could easily persuade people out of cars and on to public transport if they invested properly and provided the services needed.
They dont want that though, they want to be seen to be investing in public transport, but in reality not improving the service anywhere near enough to persuade people to ditch their cars. That way they can still keep making a fortune off the backs of car drivers via taxes on fuel and roads.

I often wonder how long it will be before cars as we know it will have had their day & be made obsolete.
Its going to happen in the long run imo & people will have to use hydrogen powered hover-buses.
Wonder if it will be in my lifetime. I'll be able to take the kids down the local transport museum & show them how we used to roll

Students are probably the muppets who'll vote for it... Bare in mind, most students live on campus and don't have cars, so won't give a fuck.
It'll get put in after a survey is done on the population.
'Do you agree it is a good thing to reduce co2, save our children and reduce traffic?'
Yes.
'Would you be for tax per mile if it meant lower co2, our future children not dying and traffic being less?'
^ try saying no to that... So Yes ... and boom.
Essentially by saying no you are saying
I would prefer more co2, our future children dying when the earth melts and more traffic jams please. bloody government spin.

Why are our future children going to die because we like to drive cars?

It's blatantly obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense that is what is happening, but people these days are too blind to look beyond X-Factor on a Saturday night to care about the way this country is going.

Thats how the government will spin it.
They'll claim that co2 = Global Warming. And Project that in the next 30 years the earth will have warmed 100 degree's C and we'll all be burnt to death. They'll then make the claim that mine and everyone elses unborn children, which will be born some time in the future - will die. Thus... By saying no, you're a baby killer.

3 cents per mile? probably say 5pence per mile?
it's not that bad but it's an invasion of our privacy and the fact it's going to put people off using their cars for leisure.
people will find a way of ''clocking'' the box i'm sure.
