My dad has one, ive found its quite dull to drive really. Doesnt seem like it has 180bhp anyway, my brothers old cammed 106 gti was faster, and my yellow 16v XSI wasnt far off it.

I think its the fact that the power delivery is quite smooth, my 2000 X plate VTS felt a lot more urgent in the way it delivered its power but was definitely not as quick. I remember my old 206 GTi 138 was the same kind of speed as the VTS neither could pull away from each other, but the VTS was a lot more fun to drive than the original 206 GTi, as the GTi had a lot of bodyroll and didnt feel as chuckable. I find the 180 a lot more responsive in the bends and reminds me of my old VTS as its very stiff and corners very flat.

And 309......

205 with a boot

They both had boots Shep.

309 was still a hatchback though and was a bigger car.
