Wouldnt touch one with JR's cock tbh.
Worked on a few, 4 months old ones with corroded exhausts, rusted up fork legs and perished fuel lines.... 4 months old!!! Cant get parts for them either.
They are disposeable bikes and nothing more, buy it in autumn, run it to spring then scrap it and get your sports bike out.
Honda dylan 125 or aprilia sport city 125 if you want a reliable and pokey 4t commuter. Failing that an aprilia SR125 if you can get a good one is probably the best scooter you could buy.

Hard to come by these days though, was so lucky with mine.
Answer me this though, I filled it up the other day with T99 Super Unleaded from Tesco, 99RON fuel, it was basically bone dry.
WOW!
On cars when you use Super Unleaded you might notice a small difference on turbocharged cars but on my scooter the difference in power is night and day.
It starts easier, it doesn't smoke at all, the torque top end is massively increased and it will sit easily at 70mph where as on normal unleaded it struggles to get passed 65mph.

It's just a piaggio typhoon with different body panels.
Gilera runners are better I think, double disc brakes, Lc engine, easier to get body parts for.

4 strokes are far more reliable, if not a little slower.
But if your buying a scooter to go fast, then your dumb da dum dum dum.. (Queue Southpark). If your buying it for every da, go 4 stroke and reliability and cheapness (no 2 stroke oil, no piston rings, but none of THAT smell, but meh, save up, do it properly when you get a bike (RGV250, KR1S, RS250)).
Benelli 491 50cc ftw, just cos its a Benelli.

when i was 16 i used to have a peugeot speedfight 2 50cc scooter and if i put morrisson's petrol in it used to smoke like mad, run crap, so i used to avoid putting there petrol in i put some shell vpower in once or twice and i can say i didnt notice the differance tho

Rubbish, time and time again I tell you this but the 3 Aprilias I have had all recieved abuse, all done a large amount of KM's and none needed rebuilds. My SR50 done like 30,000km on the original piston and rings. That was riding like a maniac everywhere. It even got faster as it got older, the trick is to put decent oil in.
The stories you probably heard are from twats not putting oil in the 2-strokes, and the smell is gorgeous.
4 strokes are shite, a 50cc 2-stroke is as quick as 4-stroke 125's and they aren't any more reliable.

Its because the fuel quality is so much better than anywhere else. We had pump fuels lab tested when we were running the race team so we knew exactly what we were putting in the bikes and how far we could go with the mapping and tesco 99 had the quality and purity that was very similar to race fuel. I ran mr sr125 on it and if i leant back just a tad it would power wheelie off the lights!

Mine lifts a wheel ever so slightly when it's warm off the lights if I'm not concentrating and full throttle it, it's an amazing scooter. I can't believe Aprilia don't make it anymore.
Is the engine still used in anything else?

That's why all the sprint scooters use LC engines then.
And I guess it's also why a lot of people put the Liquid cooled engines in to there typhoons, Nrg, Ices etc to make them slower
Not in this country, the engine is from Piaggio and it will not pass the emissions test here.

Are we talking 125cc here or 50cc?
I didn't think Gilera made a decent 125? I thought the Runner was a 180cc and yes I know that goes like stink.

Yes Daimo, fully automatic meaning full throttle off the lights with no clutch to engage.
Have you ever read up anything about the SR125?
Just ask Dizzy.
