It probably costs more than £2.75k yes not £27.5k though, if he did it himself free labour obviously, I really doubt parts/materials are that much.

it was built 20yrs ago the guy who owns it is only in his 20s imagine the cost in the 80s if that was todays money it would be a hell of a lot to build

That's probably for an installment I would have thought. Probably either the deposit or the final payment. Either that or the car was second hand at the time.
