just added it to my original post as i thought it would be handy to get a feel for the insurance prices.
they are great torquey cars. mountune remap will stick with a standard mk2 focus rs as proven by evo iirc.

all depends whether or not you could live with shit mpg figures.
at the moment i'm getting 20-22 mpg on urban roads driving normally with the occasional rev because it sounds great
motorways you'll get 30mpg, or 35mpg if driving like a granny.
countyr road thrashings will see you get between 15-17mpg.

As already said a VRS would be brilliant tbh, adore driving the gf's dads one. Not as quick or raw as others, but perfect for motorway cruising and the odd b road blast

rule the new shape TT out if running costs and insurance may be an issue.

Octavia vRS TDi
Pokey, remaps to around 210bhp/340lbft at some places
Pretty decent handling, spacious, fairly comfortable, good economy (if i absolutely rape mine it still returns over 35mpg) and pretty reliable
The newer Common Rail engines are the better choice over the PD, though the PD does the job well, but is a bit more 'agricultural' than the CR

although, tbh you'd do better getting an older one for less money because they have the nicer lights

What a list.
R32 but you'd probably prefer a diesel
You could be after anything tbh, from a Mk5 Golf (2.0 170 tdi?) to an ST.
Depending on what mileage you do, I'd be looking for an Astra VXR for around £12-13k and save a couple of grand for insurance and fuel.

I meant the Mondeo ST as a whole, in either V6 or Denzel - 220 or TDCi
