Anything under 12 seconds is good, under 10 and its mega Anything under 14 is respectable, anything over is slow.

Unless you've driven the Ring, you'll never understand the fascination with it.

Yup...

Plus, some people enjoy quoting 0-60 times, 0-100 or 1/4 mile...

I'm sure you'd tell us all day long how quick your car gets from 50-120 mph Steve... To be honest I find that sort of fact fucking dull, for a start - it's the engine and nothing to do with the driver... Wow you put your foot down in a straight line, really well done.

The reason people like the nurburg is it's a bench mark... You can have a slow car and do a quick lap, you can have a really really fast car and do a really slow lap. It's so much about the driver and how committed they drive...

Now that means nothing to you, as you have not been there yet or tried to drive the track fast. But trying to drive the track fast is the scariest thing you'll ever do. NOTE! I don't mean 'driving the track moderately fast / pottering around slowly' (although that is still quite an experience and often scary too) - but actually trying to go as quick as possible, with the track as it is, is real heart in your mouth - v.close to stacking it / injury / losing it all (Car smashed up) / death. That you feel it's a achievement once you do it as a reasonable pace!

Like minded people who've experienced the same will know exactly how it feels being out there and the reason people get hung up on times is simply because to do a sub 10 minute is fairly good going! So people can use it as a guage of how much pace / how hard they were driving. That is all.

Yeah 'Neverbeen' stickers wind me up good and proper

- I mean, fair enough you don't get it... but why is that such an issue? Why not just ignore it?

It's like me not going to church or being religious... but sticking a 'jesus is a cunt sticker on my car... What would be the point?

Whilst this is probably true, people who have been and driven round think they are in some elite club and that their opinion is now fact on driving cars. Anyone (within reason obviously) can go and have a bash, it doesn't mean you are now some stig type and it doesn't mean they now know all.

I couldn't care less about lap times at all, hence why I drive a tarted up golf which is 'slow', 'boring', 'unreliable', blah blah and I can guarantee there are more people like me than people who give a shit about driving round a track.

General Chat on this place has become very repetative, I'd even say 'CS has gone downhill'

Yeah it totally is?

I drive my car about twice a week and I'm driving around in poxy Vauxhalls all day so no racing on roads doesn't really bother me either.

in fairness, it mostly is... you maybe go to "the ring" once or twice a year, most of your driving in the year is on the british roads and motorways....

Joe that was more aimed at Steve in reference to one of his posts recently

SteveW Says:
had a play with a Porsche Carrera 4S this morning..

VXR8 1 - Carrera 0

Only took it up to 60mph cos im still getting used to RWD through the bends but i was clearly ahead of him..

looked it up and its 0-60 is 4.6 mine is 4.9 so i guess really if he tried extra hard he would win.. by a wee bit

Great stuff...

Does it have cup-holders or not? This is the deciding factor.

In all fairness I agree with ash and ollies comment, before I went to the ring I told Paul I was only going for the fun, didnt bother to learn the circuit and didnt anticipate myself timing my laps. I timed my second lap for a laugh just to see how I faired, and kinda got hooked on improving on it! I dont really go on about my times though, I know the truth is easily twisted on the internet.

I don't think I'm in an elite club, but having made the effort to go and see what all the fuss is about, I'll gladly defend the place for it's atmosphere, not to mention the sense of pleasure when you finish a lap.

I've never properly timed myself, I'm just glad when I finish a lap in one piece tbh.

Yawn, try generalising some more there Joe.

No one thinks they are in an elite club if they have been to the nurburgring, and this website generally makes sure people who don't have a clue get taken down a peg or two.

GC has become repetative because of people like you.

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=515071

all seems a bit elitist reading that?

Also I'm not sure how I was generalising there?

Also unsure as to how people like me make it boring, I rarely say much on here.

Which bit is elitist? you should give some proper examples.

you generalising...

people who have been and driven round think they are in some elite club and that their opinion is now fact on driving cars

Have you read the link I copied? I'm on my phone so can't be arsed copying. All the rubbish about not liking redline giving away a free lap, the chavs are coming etc. It's a public place, anyone can go whether your in a 'chav' car or not.

I don't consider myself part of a club or expect people to listen to me when asking for advice on track driving. I went there to drive round within my own abilities. Heck I know i'm no good on the track, but I went at my own speed, stayed out of peoples way and made it round safely a few times. As with Coombe, I enjoyed the hell out of it. I liked the atmosphere, I liked going round in other peoples cars, and loved the chill time as well as being with a good group of friends.
