Cool thread

When i first started carting a few months ago (am 9 stone 7) i just used to go flat out everywhere/sideways for the braking etc

Now am starting to think about postion into the corners and introducing some braking am a second slower a lap

funnily enough thats part of my job haha

outside, maximise the grip on the outside tyre as the karts dont have a diff they work on the inside rear tyre lifting to turn in and it also helps the kart realease out the corners

Yeh but that's TKM mate...

Half these guys are talking about 2-4 bhp corporate karts on crap circuits... Of course you're going to have to brake if your in a TKM or a 34 bhp Rotax Max the speed difference by the time you reach the corner will be hugely different. Literally most corporate karts can't do over 30 mph

cool to know... Although, surely that's where you'll be pushed / thrown anyway (by g-forces?)...

most definately. Most certainly when you are doing 50-60mph going into the tightest corner on the track

aye it all depends on the grip of the tyre. however leaning outwards helps with all levels of grip, it pulls up the inside wheel when the tyres are hot which helps the kart come off corners and not "bog down" and also when the tyres cold its puts more force down on the tyre to the road helping it grip.

n ye your right about the tkm n max stuff haha.

Instead of using the brakes professionals introduce a slip angle on the front tyres to slow them down, then negotiate the corner. Quite interesting to watch actually, noticed a few of them do it with our formula student car.

But weight is a big overall factor...less weight less energy required to accelerate and decelerate. Although, having more weight will give you grip through the corners...static downforce type of thing.

my refrence about braking was more down to when you have more power than grip as per my old 2 stroke, which makes the style im talking about alot easier to visualise
