How do you know Ford went to beat the Megane? They might have just wanted to go there?
Perhaps some is media spin.

I'd be more bothered about the average price of everyones armco bill if it was aload of randoms

vxrs just got bad press about there handling. i personally think they are both top cars and between a burg vxr and a focus rs wud be a very difficult choice for me. but it aint for others

Putting aside the fact I wouldn't buy a ford, if choosing between a burg and an RS it would come down to what cost the least 1 year down the line.
Both are far too expensive, the RS even more so, 27k for a fwd ford with a volvo engine and renualt suspension is ludicrous.

ford went the cheaper route instead of developing a decent 4wd modern cosworth.
renaults are tinny enough without being made tinny on purpose!
It wasnt meant to be a modern cosworth it was designed as a modern day escort RS turbo. Ford never built the escort cosworth either, it was all developed and built out of house for rally homologation. So unless an out of house firm decide to build a focus cosworth then there will never be another cosworth in the ford line up.
These ring times bore me, they mean nothing for uk road cars.

True, I'm just lifting that from the article. But then the lap time's lifted from the article as well, so who knows how close to the truth it is.

Wouldn't bother me. R26.R is nice but if I wanted something like that I'd do it properly and have a kit car.
RS is the everyday choice out of those 2. Although theres a couple of other hatches I'd have over it if I was spending that money

A Focus RS stripped to R26r spec would shag it all day round any track.

surely this is defeating the object though, im sure even a vxr would beat a FRS if it was stripped, boosted up to 300bhp, uprated suspension and all the other sauces and salads. the point is you don't spend that much money on a car with that many luxuries, to then turn round and decide you're going to strip all of those lovely luxuries out. im of the same opinion that if you were to do that you have wasted your money and you should have bought a kit car rant over

to be honest both the VXR ad the RS are over hyped but more so the RS
To me they are very good cars but dont really offer anything over others cars on the market
They just look a little cheap although the VXR is classier than the RS

Anyone seen the YT vid of the old 325i BMW catching, and passing the Focus RS at the ring?
This must mean that the 325 is faster, expect for the quick section out the back where the Focus comes back passed.
Its about as usefull as that for comparison

surely in the real world this is all pointless! are you going to buy or not buy a car because of what time it did around the nurburgring? no!
Personally wouldnt have either, ones french and ones a Ford but each to their own.
tbh nobody cares about the chilli-ring lap times.
