My army friend has just got a 56 Plate astra sri sport hatch in black with x-pac with the 1.9 cdti 120 engine. Paid £9500 with 26k on the clock. Wanted pretty much £2000 more for the same spec in the 150 engine. So got himself this and going to get it mapped.

Like Mark said 1.9 CDTi are hard to come by 2nd hand.

I just put a deposit on one today. 5dr with an X pack, 57 plate, 7k miles, 150 cdti.

Ordering eibachs, an arb and a chip for it this month.. Only downside is I've got to pick it up from Liverpool next week..

Viewed quite a few of them but most are ex enterprise rentals so they were a mess..

The salesman better hope he was 100% honest or he'll be impaled on the front of it when I get there.. lol

I know its probably not what you want to hear but I have to agree with everyone else, you will get bored. Buy another cheapo car and have fun with it while youre still young! MX5?

I would forget a diesel unless you do 30k a year. It will feel like driving a house compared to what your used to.

If you want to pay 10k on finance, you'd best clear it with nik first because he seems to have issues about it, then i'd go looking for a corsa VXR or a 197 cup.

Bro's gti is looking more appealing, its dirt cheap, but needs MOT'd soon. its had a fair bit of spare parts recently, ive worked on it before, seems a good wee car.

I will get a better car, likely on finance, but do it at the end of the year/start of next, like I planned to before the XSI was written off.

If he is going to cut you a good deal it will be your best bet even if dont keep it as you can sell it on again without losing much

Astra SRi CDTi 150...
Seat Leon Cupra R Diesel
Skoda Fabia VRS
Skoda Octavia VRS
Volkswagen Golf GTTDi

Could all be bought for under 10k - All quick / Torquey...

All Diesel, Amazing fuel economy, More Torque, 6 Gears and much more fun than a petrol car, Cheaper to insure than the petrol versions, Nice Reliable cars, Cheap re-map options for even more torque...

The Leon Cupra R is petrol only, the Cupra comes in diesel form (PD150) engine. You can get the Ibiza Cupra TDi which is a PD160 lump, has a FMIC as standard, will see about 210-220 with a decent exhaust, filter and custom map
