not particularly, about 130bhp standard, i think they're pretty lightweight, coupled with some good handling and you're onto a winner, don't know how it would stand up to the rest of your choices though, if it all

dont see why an ae86 has been mentioned, it fits into your price range but bears very little relevance to your original quota of cars..

the first two in your list are sensible, reliable and more practicle and prob more realistic. the other 2 are money pits and the majority out there are ragged. My mate has a cupra R and its a nice car and the interior is nice. ive nevr been in a golf but i imagine its on an equal par to that of the ibiza. those two will be more insurance freindly than the other jap stuff mentioned. Cupra R is group 17 though, normal cupra is around 15
