The fine is to deter the person from parking illegally on someones property again, the clamp is a deterant to others and a means of immobilising the offender until the fine is paid.
By removing the clamp you can be charged with criminal damage, depends how arsey the company is, they can do you for a scratch that could of already been there, and you try proving you didnt scratch a clamp which is covered in scrapes already.

On the front you can, but you need to separate the ball joint from the suspension arm. On the rear it would depend on what they thread the chain through. If there's a nice piece of solid welded up chassis or suspension then they will probably use that.

The clamp shown on the pic goes through the spokes on the wheel though.

Surely no way to get them off?

Oh right, no chance then. My one went behind the McPherson strut and looped around the suspension arm, so I un-bolted the lower ball joint which gave sufficient slack for the clamp to be removed from the wheel. I was very proud of myself for getting the damn thing off at least

its very wrong. Seizing your property (what if u needed it in an emergency?!) and they hold it to an extortionate ransom.

I had to pay £150 when i was 40mins late back to a pay and display in Windsor. An absoloute outrage. My mistake as i was late. But charging me for 10days parking for being 40mins late?!

Its basicly legal extortion. Needs banning.

It used to be alot worse until they brought in the governing body SIA, i do agree though it is ridiculous is some places. I actually have a nvq in vehicle immobilisation ( yes they do such a thing) so i could do clamping but decided not to, the company who offered me a job charged £250+vat to remove a clamp if you return within 10 mins, if no one returns then the tow truck is called which is another £150+vat. If the person came back to their car when the tow truck had been called you were charged a cancellation fee for the truck which is £150+vat. So basically just shy of £500 for potentially being parked for 11 mins, if the owner was abusive you could charge an extra £50 and if they so much as touched the clamp a damage fee of £50 also. The uniform came with a stab vest i couldnt do that to someone

That is absolutely despicable, and is a perfect metaphor for what living is this small penised country is like a lot of the time.
